Doctor Who “The Helliax Rift”, well the first half anyway. Am enjoying this one rather a lot.

i love that am more calm as regarding my listening now gone that FOMO of my youth and now its when am ready to listen I listen.Learning to avoid spoilers has become quite natural for most part but even if I don’t my pleasure isn’t altered too much.Well this has really got off to a great start .Frazer really hits the spots with his Patrick...absolutely lovely.

For most of the day, South Africa v England 4th Test in Johannesburg, a true pleasure on the radio.
Then I'm going to try and revisit a bit of a mixed bag of audios in the MR 230s:
Any from Ghost Walk, Iron Bright or Kingdom of Lies (none of which I've finished), Lure of the Nomad (which I initially thought was poor but I enjoyed it 2nd listen), Hour of the Cybermen (quite good) or the excellent Serpent in the Silver Mask (very good indeed).

I love listening to cricket on the radio. However I don't find Talksport as enjoyable or as charming as TMS.

Ghost Walk is great - a spooky/eerie tale that is strong and enjoyable. Also does the Doctor 'break' the rules of time to 'save' Nyssa? I so, why not do the same trick for Adric. Kingdom of Lies - as a republican and anti-monarchist I have a special place for this. The send up of Diana/Charles here is hilarious (and fits well with the current fiasco of the House of Windsor soap opera). Final episode is a bit weaker. Should've been 3 parter really. Iron Bright and Lure are also quite good. I think that trilogy suffers from not having Flip/Constance - 'what to do with Sixie' was the feeling I got when I listened to them...

Somehow I feel doing a pastiche of the latter might even be a bit far for the world of Doctor Who. (The cartoon characters of ‘The Crooked World’ is an exception of course.)

The Green Life. My first ever Torchwood experience and the one that made me at least poke my toe in. It is just a fun romp. And there is Never too much Katy.

I'm neither of those things and I still loved the satire!
And I think it helped me get a few more of the royal in-jokes, quotes and references because it is packed with them from the obvious ones down to royal minutiae which you'd need at least a passing interest in the Windsors to know! Excellent research by the writers and huge amounts of fun. I also enjoyed when {Spoiler} the real assassin turned up for the big finale , great story opening a wonderful trilogy for Five.
On the 'Ghost Walk' question, {Spoiler} I think it's about potential events as opposed to definite ones; a theme of the story. He knew Adric was dead in Earthshock so couldn't reverse events. Here he wasn't sure about Nyssa, so he could act because she might have been alive.

4DAs 9.1 - Purgatory 12
Very era-authentic story, I'm sure I look 40 years younger after listening! Enjoyed it very much indeed, great to hear the S18 team back together at last to expand E-Space with four new adventures. And four-parters, YES!

All good stories as i have posted before Lure Of Nomad gets a lot of listens i really love Colins coldness at the end so chilling and i always envisage that he has made an error and condemned Mathew

Hour of the Cybermen - which was pretty good but I'm not too sure about the whole Daniel Hopkins character. 7 out of 10

‘The Axis of Insanity’ Not sure about this one. I like the ideas in it and it’s packed to the brim with wonderful comic book imagery. Hardly surprising considering its writer. But I do think it’s a tad patchy in parts and is more set up for things to come. Even if that wasn’t the intention at the time of release.

Scavenger (which I got in last weeks sale). This is actually really good so far (1 hour in). No idea why I had not had this on my radar until now. It is a great story for Flip and the 6th Doctor, and both get to be properly heroic. Plus is it a exciting story in an interesting setting.
