Well Dark Shadows is a US property that succeeded right. It is interesting to see some ranges that succeed and others don't. But I am sure the 10th Doctor Adventures will do more than fine for Big Finish. Dark Shadows had been on audio before. Indeed, Big Finish re-released Return to Collinwood. It was also wrapped up decades ago and the DVDs weren't so readily available until the big coffin box set with all the episodes was produced to tie into the 2012 movie (I'm still trying to save up for it, but it's so expensive!). Stargate was going through its final seasons of Atlantis (the Atlantis audio interviews were done during the filming of season five), the SG-1 movie Continuum and Stargate Universe was in production when the first two seasons of audio readings were released, and the main audience wasn't receptive to audio anyway. A pity, as the stories were strong with great characters moments that explored the characters TV episodes often had in the background, rather than the main players and a special guest star.

I'm just so happy looking at these covers.
I am someone who is usually a download only customer I have preordered the box set. That's how excited I am about this release.

As someone who spoke to one of these "fan girls" about it, the discussion literally went like this: Me: Tennant's coming back! Fangirl: Oh my god, really?! Me: Yeah, he's doing some audio plays, I've told you about them before. Fangirl: Uuuugh, no, that's ****, this audio stuff's pointless. So yeah, imagine the typical reservations some people have about audio, exaggerated 1000 times. Must be the same fangirls who dismissed Capaldi because he's *shock horror* OLD! instead of a good looking young man. Can we have a Planet of the Fangirls story where the Twelfth Doctor teaches them how to judge beyond looks and sexiness, and factor in acting ability as well? I suppose there is an older generation who finds Capaldi sexy. This particular fangirl actually likes Capaldi (possibly due to her love of The Thick of It).

I think it's wrong to think David Tennant fans are so shallow they only care about his looks. I agree, kimalysong. Maybe these "fangirls" that others are talking about are analogous to the "fanboys" who watch Peri and the Fifth Doctor and only focus on a particular thing about Peri. (Sorry, I couldn't resist! )

I've met plenty of Female Who fans who like Tennnant, and I never got the impression that they only like him for his looks. I'm sure there are some "fans" who only watch because they like looking at David Tennant, but as you said, I'm suree there arre some male fans who watch just to look at the companion.

Yes, and I think we're safe to say none of the fanbase motivated primarily by their feelings over a characters looks (male or female) will ever be great fans of Big Finish (which is not to say Big Finish fans may not also be fans of the male or female form - looking at you, jbmasta).

Fantastic covers that capture and pay homage to the RTD era perfectly.

I think the collector's edition is more of a generational thing. Yes, it looks nice, but I'm sure many younger fans would probably find it overpirced and unneccessary agasint the price and ease of access for the download.

I've never met any fan girls online or offline who acted in the way described here. Female fans I've met were incredibly receptive to Calapadi's casting and subsquent stories and age certiantly wasn't a factor. Isn't the whole Ten fan girls thing a myth, anyway perpuarted by the 'boys club' of fandom?
This is getting REALLY close to gatekeeping, guys and I don't think you guys reliase just how alienating your comments are. There are a lot of new people coming in to Big Finish or through Ten's stories might want to engage with the Big Finish side of fandom more and we have the reputation of being one of the more welcoming hospitable places of fandom. Let's keep it that way, shall we? Fan girls already find it difficult to move in geekdom generally.

We're talking about Tennant fangirls, who are only fans of David Tennant and any future Doctor who isn't young like him is automatically 'rubbish'.

To be fair, YOU are the one who brought up "Fan girls". We were responding to your perceived idea that the "fan girl" stereotype should be all over the limited release but aren't. The issue is probably more to do with Audio only having a small following (relative to Who in general) and many overseas fans will have bought the download because of cost. The only thing I will say is that WE are ALL Doctor Who Fan boys and girls . Cheers Tony

My favourite is the Time Reaver cover. It looks very much like a story from 2008. Still surprised the limited edition set hasn't sold out yet. What's happened to all the fangirls? I didnt have enough money to buy more than one copy

Well Dark Shadows is a US property that succeeded right. It is interesting to see some ranges that succeed and others don't. But I am sure the 10th Doctor Adventures will do more than fine for Big Finish. I'd be willing to get it for £20 physical (like the War Doctor sets), but 3 Hours for £22 on download alone just seems too steep for me. I don't know what makes it that price (Tennant and Tate's popular demand?) but anything higher that £5 per hour leaves me reluctant.

Just a slight correction - BF have never released Return to Collinwood.

I don't think that "Tennant fangirls" are actually as common as you think they are. Most fans, male and female, understand how the show works.

Even the £20 for 3 hours is too steep for my liking. I'm with you, fiver an hour is a good price point.

I think the price is fine, considering that you're getting David Tennant and Catherine Tate audios and if you're getting the LE version, you're buying something that'll be worth a lot in years to come (providing you keep it in good condition).

I'd get the download, if anything, but at that price I just won't bother. I can get a lot more Doctor Who for the same money by shopping around the back catalogue. I'm just not excited enough to pay that far over the odds. With a 12 month subscription, a 2 disc release costs less than 9 quid, so I'll be listening to the Master trilogy instead.
