Damn, I wish my vortex manipulator was still working. I'll just have to (try to) be patient and wait for 4pm.

Awesome news.....and already put in my preorder. Making this my latest current preorder. Was considering putting in an order for Classic Doctors New Monsters Vol 2 as well but as that isn't till the end of next year I decided I can wait. At least until vol 1 is out.

I'm excited for this! I was hoping for a Doctor-lite boxset this time around, but Six and Seven have me interested. I was hoping for Benny but fingers crossed for Series 3.
Also John Dorney writing an episode? That was on my wishlist for this series, so I'm doubly excited now!

Seems that their goal is to have River meet all of the classic Doctors, which should be highly entertaining. I'm particularly looking forward to how much she will confound Five.

That's what I am now thinking and hoping too. If she meets 5 will she also meet 4? Not that I think River needs the Doctor in her boxset. But I love how she saved the Doctor in the last one. I hope that is a continuing trend.

As much as I love River meeting Six ("Take it all off, sweetie") and Seven, I'd really hoped The Doctor wasn't going to appear at all this time around and we'd see River more on her own. That's my main expectation with a spin off. With the series being placed post-Angels Take Manhatten and the look beyond River's veneer to the damaged little girl underneath (armed and dangerous) and the examination of the pain of River and The Doctor's relationship and their emotional dependency as relative immortals - yes, it's where the cracks meet, but River needs more then that to live, it really seemed ripe for River to progress to her own solo adventures.
I get it, it's all about bridging the gap between the original series and the revival audience, but didn't we get that with the first box set, the upcoming Doom Coliation 2 (this Thursday, folks!) and the New Series, New Doctors box sets? To me, it feels like overkill and I'm not sure how a newcommer to Big Finish or the original series might find it more then a little pushy as well.
Seven's not going to get off lightly, is he? ("Master of schemes in a very stupid hat").

It doesn't surprise me that the Doctor is in this, but I am surprised to see two different Doctors. Part of me feels like there's only so many times that River can half-meet the Doctor before it feels contrived, but then again... It's River Song meeting the sixth and seventh Doctors! I'm not going to complain. It looks like we'll have an exciting start to 2017.

I don't think Big Finish are going to overplay that device, particularly when the draw is River meeting and interacting with other Doctors. Perhaps, other moments of history have gone 'wrong' and River has to intersect with The Doctor's timeline, only to mindwipe him later? Yes, there's the old cliche of Eight getting his memory wiped, but I personally can forgive it if it draws more people to his stories.

Good point. If River does meet the classic Doctors properly, perhaps they'll come up with one storyline reason that covers all future meetings. That way they don't won't have to come up with an explanation each and every time they have River meet a pre-Tennant Doctor.

I almost wish they had done the memory wipe story as part of the Tenth Doctor box set so all the other Doctors could know who she is.

We just need a line of dialogue... something about the TARDIS forcing him to forget in order to preserve the "fragile interconnected threads of temporal lattice" or somesuch. Then she could dance with One, drink with Three and scare the living wits out of Five!
