Good to hear from you, I rather miss your progress reports on taking in the TV series. Nothing wrong with watching the OS all over, you know. :-)
It's a full-cast audio drama written by Jamison Selby (Ed Griffin) set in (I think) just slightly post-Y2K Collinsport, with a really great list of returning cast from the original series. It was performed live at a DS Festival in 2003 before being recorded for the CD release. It's not terribly observant of the Big Finish continuity since it came first although I think the Big Finish DS releases are generally mindful of it.
Personally I just had to get it (and glad I did), it has John Karlen (and Donna Wandrey who has yet to do a Big Finish audio that I know of, and Terry Crawford who I wish would do more of them) not to mention everyone else who's in it. Not at all a bad story, either.
There was a sequel that was performed at a Festival also, called Revenge at Collinwood, although it was never recorded for commercial release. Occasionally the subject comes up and generally we long to hear it but I'm not sure how much hope of that it would be realistic to hang onto if it hasn't happened by now.

Thanks for the response Barnabaslives. Very kind of you to say you miss my updates. It was so I could look back and remember the quality time I had watching it. I miss Barnabas and Julia so much! Such a huge investment (time-wise) but so worth it. Its too soon to start again, but am finding it hard to get into anything new. So I think i will get it and see how it sounds.

I agree with barnabaslives! Miss your detailed posts on the OS. And also on RtC--you should get it. Just one small correction--its sequel (which as far as I know was never recorded) is called "'Vengeance' at Collinwood".

Yes, I would buy Return to Collinwood all over again if I had to. It's about two hours long and set about 2003, the time when it was recorded, and so far nothing (or almost nothing) in the Big Finish range has been set beyond it. I can't remember if The Path of Fate or one of the others might skip ahead in time beyond it. Jim Pierson has always been very vocal about wanting RTC to be the happy ending for the series and that the Big Finish dramas should lead up to it. That may be why its sequel wasn't recorded --because it unraveled the happy endings of its predecessor. Happy endings are all too rare in the world of Dark Shadows and they deserve to keep whatever happiness they get. Have you heard my latest podcast, with KLS, DD and JL...?

Yes! Very exciting, if you're talking about KLS & David Selby pairings in the early 2000s. Are we talking about setting these audiobooks in the 2000s while the full casts still in the 1980s, or will all the stories skip ahead? I guess wherever the creative muse takes us. That seems a good guess. (And I don't know the answers to any of that.)
But RtC looks more like a jumping-off point (*) than an ending to me now.
(*) No, not like Widows' Hill.

Return to Collinwood is a great story. It was the first Dark Shadows audio, which sort of helped lead to the amazing Big Finish audios. Set in the early 2000s (Willie bought something off eBay and a few other references), the Big Finish productions wisely decided to focus their dramas in the 70s and 80s. Some of the plot developments in Big Finish are clearly to lead up to Return to Collinwood events (like Willie and Jessica).
I was excited to hear that Joe, Davey, and co plan to do some smaller audios- such as Maggie and Quentin set after Return to Collinwood. While it's a great audio, Return to Collinwood leaves a lot of doors open that beg for Big Finish to go through.

Thanks for your help in advanced. As a Big Finish listener, you may be interested to hear Return to Collinwood. Many of the Big Finish Dark Shadows audios use RtC as a distant signpost to steer towards. Things that have happened in BF audios that help set up RtC: -the introduction of Jessica Griffin (who becomes Jessica Loomis) -Carolyn going to college to study the occult -Maggie finding and marrying Joe Haskell -Maggie becoming ignorant of the supernatural and probably a lot more but that's off the top of my head. And if audios happen to take place after RtC, well that would make RtC interesting listening too.

I love 'Return to Collinwood'. It sounds and feels like a part of the original series, so much so that I can practically picture the videotape look and see the cast on the familiar sets - familiar but a little updated. Had it been the single audio sequel, it would have been a lovely tribute and a delightful continuation of the original series. Of course it's even better that Big Finish took up the audio baton, and better yet that BF chose to develop the story connections that lead toward 'Return'.

I enjoyed it, but it sort of sets up a new series and sadly there hasnt been any audio continuation and apparently vengance at collinwood? Doesnt follow up on certain plot threads. Its worth listening too though

Its worth listening too though YES! This is why many fans are hoping to Joe, Davy, and co decide to finally push beyond the seemingly sacred Return to Collinwood. While I know that they worry they would have to sour some of the happy endings there, there are so many other plot points to focus on. With Angelique alive and kicking at Rose Cottage, the mysterious Violet Chavez Collins, and Maggie's reaction to Quentin's lifestory, there's plenty to at least finally give a good closing audio to, whether or not they slip in nods to Vengeance at Collinwood.

I'd actually kind of like them to re-record Return, incorporate Vengeance into it, intermingling the two plots to be somewhat concurrent, and update both to incorporate stuff from the multitude of BF audios that have come out in the past decade. While they're at it, they can spread it all out over thirteen episodes as another mini-series. Or at the very least across several lengthy episodes akin to Blood & Fire.
Like, what happened to Amy? And her kids? Tony meeting Angelique again should have a lot more going on in the background, given their through thread in the Dramatic Readings. We know a lot more about the Trask family now, so maybe expand some more on the hints that Tony is Charity's grandson. Where's Miss Quick? Where's Burke? Etc, etc.

I think BF has done a grand job of fitting in the audios to RtC.
I am not sure they can move the series forward if RtC is canon instead a measuring rod...
But I never say never... these guys are full of imagination and energy....
