FREE STORY - to celebrate Lovecraft's birthday, the HPLHS has made Herbert West: Reaminator available for free as an MP3 download. It's here. Not sure how long it'll be available for, as HPL's birthday was a few days ago, but jump in quick if you haven't heard it, because FREE is like paying without using money! (I'm on holidays, only accessing the internet occassionally!)

Just checked - the free offer is over! Hope anyone who wanted it got a copy. Maybe there'll be a freeby for Lovecraft's birthday (August 20) next year?

The HPLHS has advised (on the Dark Adventures Radio Theatre Facebook page) that they plan "to dive into 2020 with a pair of new DART shows." What and when will be revealed when the stars are right...

The HP Lovecraft Historical Society have posted (on the Dark Adventures Radio Theatre Facebook page) that the first draft of a new DART script has been completed. No information on the story or the production yet available, nor do I know whether and how the current COVID-19 situation will effect the recording. Photos from previous session show group recordings, but of course different methods could be used.

Don't ask, and you may receive! Published on the Facebook Dark Adventures Radio Theatre overnight:
A number of these aren't Lovecraft-authored stories, and some sound odd. However, for example, The Absent-Minded Cannibal was written by the everend McGregor Daunt, and was published in The Black Mask in August 1927. On the other hand I can't find any reference to The Whispering Newts of Sambongo other than as one of the fictitious next releases on the DART adaptation of three stories released as Bad Medicine.
I'm assuming we'll have some anthology releases, as the HPLHS has done previously.
EDITED TO ADD: They've subsequnetly added, "At the end of every episode, you hear a plug for what's coming next week. This is the list of those next week titles. To date, none of these have gone into production." So, belated April Fools' joke or something more?
EDITED FURTHER TO ADD: Probably more just me getting overexcited at the prospect of new stories. Oh well!

20% off all DART stories until the end of the month! The HP Lovecraft Historical Society is offering a 20% discount off their stories - you can see them all at Catalogue and enter the code DARTATHOME at checkout. If you order a story on CD and, like me, you don't live in the US, international postage is running slow - but you will have access to a downloadable file. You can order stories in download format only if you like.

The new DART story is going into production "immediately". As to what it is, apparently that will be announced "soon".

NEW STORY ANNOUNCEMENTOne of Lovecraft's better known stories, it's been adapted numerous times. The BBC made a modern radio version (the second story in what is understood to be a 3 story arc). and the H P Lovecraft Historical Society previously adapted it in the style of a 1930s horror film, but it's been adapted in comics, as part of an anthogy movie, and spawned two sequel novels. Now available for pre-order, available on CD or as a download with props, in some cases.

Downloading The Whisperer in Darkness now! I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. How does it compare to their movie adaptation? It's been a while since I saw the movie, so direct comparison is difficult. It's very much an audio adaptation - the visual aspects of the movie can't easily be replicted in audio, so they don't. Everything is on the edges (or out there in the darkness somewhere) so it's more terrifying in many ways, it just the voices feeding directly into your imagination. If it were the movie, you'd get to see someone else's view of what things look ilke (and I recall that I fondt he visuals of the movie pleasing to me, but other's mileage may vary.) Yur imagination knows what works best for you... In some ways, this may be their best audio adaptation of Lovecraft, as you don't know exactly what is going on, it's primarily an exchange of information and events between two correspondents (as per the story), with a couple of tweaks to fully fit it into the audio format. If you want the curtain to be pulled back at the end and everything explained, you might get frustrated (as you also would with Lovecraft's stories). But I reckon you're best to wait until its dark, dim or extinguish the lights, and lay back and listen.

The latest DART news is that the scripters are hard at work, and they have at least five stories planned (timeframe unspecified).
About the five, they say:

And the first of the new DART adventures is an adaptation of The Curse of Yig - a story by H P Lovecraft and Zealia Bishop. For those not aware, Lovecraft was a jobbing author in his lifetime, and one of the types of work he did was to expand on ideas of of people who didn't have the time or skill to complete the stories themselves. The paying client was officially the author, with all rights to the story. Lovecraft records and letter have allowed his c0-authorship to be reconised later. In this case, Zealia provided the story idea and notes about the setting, which Lovecraft fleshed out into a full story. It is expected that the audio will issue before Haloween. It is available as an audio download only, or as a physical CD with prop documents to enhance you listening experience (comes with an audio download). The physical CD will issue shortly after the audio download. Available here.

The recording of The Curse of Yig is complete, on to post-production. This one appears to be going very rapidly!

The recording of The Curse of Yig is complete, on to post-production. This one appears to be going very rapidly! There's an assembly cut of the story, and apparently the prop documents are designed. If the story as pacy as the production, it'll be a corker!
