I'm not saying it's ideal that Big Finish has left it up - it isn't - but I do think Big Finish have tried their hardest to put Jekyll and Hyde out. This isn't typical. I'm also wondering if it's possible parts of it have also been recorded and there might be contractual issues involved? Why do you believe they have tried their hardest? I’d echo that. I still remember that podcast from last year when Nick found out the production was up on the web site as being released in a couple of months time. It was genuine surprise. Which is when it got moved to TBA on the December 2018 What’s New page. And I have little doubt it will soon get moved to December of 2019 because based on what we know, it isn’t anywhere close to being done. This kind of case is rare. I would point to how Big Finish and Nick handled the delays to their War of the Worlds audio. That was upfront and transparent. I would repeat that it would be nice to see this situation handled in a similar fashion.

Because of the long standing quality of Big Finish, the extra mile in every production, the sheer love of story (more then a slogan) that you can feel in every production.

No point in me arguing against such irrefutable logic :-)

99% of the productions yes, but this one hasn't had any visible attention put in for a while. It feels like the odd job you've been meaning to get around to doing but other things keep on cropping up.

More to me like Big Finish juggling MANY projects and trying to do their best for their audience and strech out creativily. Doesn't really feel like an 'odd job' given how much of a passion project this has been for Nick and how he's explained it's been waylaid by difficulties in getting the actors in. Again: I do believe that Big Finish removing Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde from sale is long overdue given the obvious production difficulties. But it's Big Finish and I can forgive that gestalt of creativity anything, because I don't think we'll ever see anything like it again. You would be mad to do what Big Finish does and it's a testament to their brilliance that they do it.

If they'd been struggling to get the actors for two years then they would've just recast by now. And it is sort of an odd job for Nick because it's an adaptation of his own script- realistically it should be quite easy for him to churn it out.

Since they chose to ignore comments on social media, I emailed them - my suggestion that something be posted to the website, or at the very least that those who pre-ordered be contacted and given an update doesn't seem to have been acted on, and likely won't be, but here is the response I received.

I probably glossed over that if they discussed it on the podcast, my brother's sick. Given everything else Big Finish does though, I can see Nick Briggs pirortising, well, everything else and wanting a set recording dates before setting to work at it. I'm not saying that's the best thing, but I'll reiterate: Big Finish! Given what we know of this adapation and Acoustic Wolf's own take on it, however, I can understand Nick Briggs wanting to hold onto the essence of the theatre production, especially if he wrote it in mind for the original cast.

Kicking the problem down the road. Someone lock Nick in his shed so he can get on to writing it. That's what happened to Douglas Adams when he suffered from a bad bout of deadline procrastination. If Nick can't work on it, take down the product page and refund people who have pre-ordered or assign someone else to adapt. If it has to be Nick, refer the second sentence.

Maybe someone should write into the podcast about it and ask Nick to address the issue directly? Of course, they may just choose not to read out that email ...

Problem is Big Finish is taking money for a project with no guaranteed completion date. Pull the passion project until there’s enough material written and recorded for buyers to be sure of getting something for their money instead of empty promises. That’s what Big Finish do. People pay money so Big Finish Productions can recoup the cost of hiring writers, directors, actors etc for any given production. We give our hard earned money in exchange for mainly audio productions. People who pre order this give their money and receive nothing. Pre ordering is about making up as much of the production costs as possible.

Apologies if my post was badly worded, but to my mind explaining what the issue is and addressing it are 2 different things ...
We know the explanation for why this situation has occurred. Given that BF have taken peoples' money, after this length of time simply explaining and saying sorry isn't enough. Nick needs to address it, i.e. take responsibility and do something about it to fix it.

We already know he doesn’t take some kinds of feedback well, and the listener emails in the podcast seem to be cherrypicked for the ones he likes best and avoid things he would rather not address. This can even show in the Vortex reader email page. Unless news comes up before then Big Finish Day might be a good place to ask him, in front of a live audience.

Bundles are a bit different because you know you’ll get something at least, like with the Big Finish Originals bundle.
