I sent in two entries, one with the Eighth Doctor and Charley and one with the Seventh Doctor and Ace. I enjoyed working on my ideas and I can't wait for next year. In the meantime, let's all take a moment to appreciate whichever unfortunate person has to read through all the entries one by one.

Hello again, I wish I'd found this thread earlier. Ah yes the trials and tribulations of the aspiring writer. "Dear Mr. Briggs have you read my work it took me weeks to write and I want to be a Big Finish Writer, Big Finish Writer! It's a crazy story of a monster shoe and the way it stomps all over you..." Apologies to the Beatles, sorry.
It has been an interesting few weeks. I'm afraid I did leave things to the last minute, 22:53 to be exact. It did take a while to confirm sending but I think it made it.
I too thought it a brave decision to allow multiple entries. It will be interesting to see the final tally. I managed to complete chrisscorkscrew's challenge of a straight flush of Doctors. 5th with Tegan and Nyssa, 6th and 7th with guest helper and 8th Doctor and Charley.
Well done to everyone who entered. This writing lark is not as easy as it looks. Now to my next opus: "Barry Bottle had always wondered why that smug kid with the lightning shaped scar and round glasses kept calling him a Snuggle..."

It drives me mad not to know any more information about the stories (you have picked some really good teams there), but then you may well be the winner! As you all know, I submitted a single story: 6th and Mel. Chriss C.

You certainly get the bravery award for the latest submission! Well done for completing your straight flush of Doctors. Of course this means that next year, you have to build on it with an extra Doctor... Chriss C.

What about 2018? I'm Ian would like to know he has something to look forward to! From what I've seen here I guess he has many hundreds to filter through, hopefully sub a thousand!
Who knew there were that many stories!?

I'd love to see some stats on the entries - how many alien invasions, bases under siege, multiple Doctor/timeline stories etc - it would be really interesting to see what the major themes are. I think asking for stats beyond number of entries is asking a lot of the process, interesting though it might be

Assuming that 500 people entered [totally random guess there] and each submitted an average of two ideas, they'll certainly be looking at entry numbers in the thousands. It's quite probable that more than 500 entered, but it's hard to quantify obviously.

I only managed the one entry: a 3rd Doctor and Jo story focused on a little bit of television history. I was pretty pleased with the result and the sense of achievement (yes I know it was only a page and a synopsis, but there was plenty of tinkering with the plot). Most pleasingly, my pal who read and sanity checked it for me it said it gave off a very Targety vibe.
I would certainly be keen to enter again next time around, as I have really enjoyed the process.

I didn't feel confident in my idea enough to send it off. I know you have to be in it to win it etc but if I was going to enter I wanted to have a really good idea. Mine centred around an Older Mel, living with her husband and two sons in the Sussex Countryside. Her husband has a strange experience and sees a vision of a man (the 7th Doctor) and suddenly Melanie's life begins to unravel once the real Doctor turns up and things don't make sense etc. She's recently been diagnosed with short term memory loss but through a series of flashbacks leading up to her supposed 'death' at the hands of an android race who attacked Earth, reveal that she has become stuck in a dream like scenario and the two worlds (the dream world and the real world) are colliding.
One of the reasons I didn't send it is because I felt that it too closely resembled 'Amy's Choice' and thought I might lost 'points' for originality but this was truly an original idea until I thought about the links. And I felt I didn't really understand the Short Trips range enough so maybe I'll give a few a listen and try again next year.
Some possible titles for my short trip were 'The Last Song' (because Mel's job in the dream world is a leading West End performer) or 'The Cottage at the Top of the Hill' (too long I know but it basically references the fact that at the end of the story when the dream world is falling apart, Mel's cottage at the top of a hill is for a tiny second the last thing left in existence)
But hey, the name of Mel's agent was Paul
Good luck to all who entered

You replied on 04/07/2016 15:14. Hi Michael,
I can't contact every one of the runners up as we had hundreds and hundreds of entries, but in a few cases I did want to get in touch about the story. Just wanted you to know that I thought this was a really strong story, almost theatrical in its plot, and a nice harking back to two Third Doctor characters. I really enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good work!
Ian
