a bit of a mixed bag (despite being 6 chapters of a story from the same writer), not Big Finish's best release but not the worst either
Overall, I found it interesting and entertaining (worthy of 6 or 7 out of 10) - the Dorian story is probably the best of the six

An enjoyable romp through many of BF's properties, a jumping on point for them all I feel, but nothing special apart from the obvious.

I agree with Jason. An enjoyable romp through (and good introduction to the main characters of) six side ranges. That makes it worthwhile as you have to buy one 'pilot'/introduction to all of them rather than one each. It's how I got into these ranges back when this box set was first released.

I'll echo what everyone else is saying. It's a great way to sample the six sets of characters and get a feel for what their regular (mis)adventures are like. The Graceless segment is probably the weakest in this regard, as it's hard to get a proper representation of essence of the range in half an hour and kick off the arcing storyline. The Dorian Gray story is the strongest. The Round the Worlds behind the scenes doco is a lot of fun, and well worth listening to.

I wasn't sure whether to get this - I follow Vienna & Benny (though I'm only up to series 7) but I've no interest in Dorian or BF Holmes. I listened to Graceless on the radio and enjoy Iris but haven't heard many. So reckoned about half the set would be of interest to me.
Despite that, I enjoyed the whole thing. I haven't been convinced to subscribe to any new ranges, but that doesn't matter, it still hangs together and each chapter is distinctive and entertaining.

The Iris story is much closer in tone to her adventures in the Reloaded set, which was commissioned during production of this release, than it is to her previous BF and general adventures. Usually it's bonkers Iris in bonkers situations (one time she faces an evil lift AI trying to take over the universe with a cat food jingle), but in Worlds and Reloaded she finds herself in relatively more down to Earth situations, which are a lot less marmite and easier to listen to if you don't like her usually level of barmy.

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Iris (kind of like The Doctor, I guess... ) but even so I never really understood the choice to make her adventures less unique, and closer to the kind of stories you could already get from any number of Big Finish lines and characters. I suppose I just never saw a niche character with a small, but dedicated, fan base suddenly becoming more popular by toning down what makes her stand out to begin with. Just all seemed a bit odd to me. But what do I know?

Just all seemed a bit odd to me. But what do I know? Those previous series are still out there. And it was a decision borne out of discussions with Paul and even Katy. Iris is a wonderfully bonkers and unique character, but she was losing her identity by being surrounded by characters even bigger and bolder than her. She was arguably becoming less than unique, because everyone else was just as mad as she was. And the scenarios in Wildthyme Reloaded - whilst featuring more down to Earth scenarios in some ways - aren't particularly grounded in reality any more than previous series were. It's just that Iris stands out more...

It's just, to me, Reloaded, and Iris within it, felt to a certain degree like it had lost its spark somewhat. And while I understand that change and experimentation is a part of good storytelling, and that toning things back in certain regards when doing crossovers and the like is often necessary - where you have more than one master to serve, and potentially different audiences with different expectations and story considerations to balance - in her own series this change of direction for the most part just didn't quite play for me, personally. That's all. Which is fine, we all have our own personal tastes and views after all, and I'd never try to impose mine on anyone else, nor would I arrogantly assume that things should be made in a way that personally pleases me, I was just slightly disappointed by the ultimate outcome, is all.
I appreciate you taking the time to give some perspective on the 'why' behind it all, though.

I didn't get it cause the only story I was really interested in was the Benny story. I have no interest in Vienna or Dorian. I haven't listened to Graceless yet, though I'm familiar with the characters from Key2Time and The Prisoner's Dilemma. I've listened to a couple of stories in which Iris Wildthyme played a part - I wasn't a fan of the character in the books in which she appeared, but listening to Katy Manning play her is a hot riot. I'll probably get it eventually.

Other than Dorian, I'd never really gotten into the other characters or their ranges over the years. Still, I was curious and I got it for a steal when it was released through Humble Bundle.
I was really impressed by how David Llewellyn effortlessly shifted between styles and voices for each episode - the self-contained stories maintained very distinct tones and moods, and the pacing was great for a casual fan like myself. I got a real sense of the different characters and styles, and even if I wasn't particularly hooked or otherwise invested (I was indifferent to Graceless and Vienna), they still held my attention and didn't wear out their welcome. Amazing work!
The overall story was nothing spectacular, but as with old school comic book superhero teamups, it just needed to be fun and engaging and it did just that. It also encouraged me to go check out some more Dorian Gray (I only have the first series and the freebies).
This is also one of the rare series where the extra material was worth listening to. Unlike the Doctor Who interviews where the subjects often seem like they're trying to be polite and trot out variations on the same four stock replies, this cast sounded genuinely engaged with the characters and material, and were clearly having a blast being together and recording the stories. It was interesting to hear how the writer approached the task (and how it changed from the original concept). I loved the outtakes as well. The cast and crew sounded like they all sincerely cared (as opposed to just doing a gig, which is the vibe I often get from the main range DW stuff), and that made all the difference in the end result. That enthusiasm comes through.
I'm guessing that this is a one-shot deal, but I enjoy short stories like this and would support another volume if they were able to put one together.

I've held off on this release. Other than Benny and Sherlock, I'm not interested in any of the other ranges. It's still worth a listen. Think of it as a taster platter. You like a couple of the flavors but you never know, you might like more of the selection. There are plenty of Dorian champions willing to recommend that range, me included.

I think that is just about right. I feel like it is worth noting that the Benny, Dorian & Sherlock featured episodes are the strongest of the bunch.

Have enjoyed what Sherlock I've listened to. I've mostly enjoyed the Iris Wildthyme I've listened to, though I didn't like the character at all when she first appeared in books. However, Katy Manning's performance as Iris is quite good. No interest in Vienna and Dorian, from what I've heard of them. Might get into Graceless at some point. All of which is pretty much why I haven't bought this release up to now.
