I'm listening to the radio episodes of Yes Minister. That was such a brilliant show, both on radio and tv.
When I was doing my political science degree one of my policy profs would show episodes when he didn't feel like teaching - which was most of the time.

I am listening to JG Ballard's 'High Rise', read by the lead actor in the film Tom Hiddleston. It is a terrific, apocalyptic story that is even better when it is being read to you!

Today I heard 'The Bee Maker' on BBC Radio 4 - an apocalyptic near future tale, a bit strange but a good listen.
Paz - I like a bit of Ballard, High Rise is a great novel.

Only bettered by 'Concrete Island', in my view (also available on Audible). Ballard is a little hit-and-miss for me, I find some of his stuff really difficult to get into. He's also written many things I really do like.

Indeed, he can be hard work at times and ive finished many of his novels a little bemused.
I have soft spots for 'The Drowned World' and his 2 chunky short story collections.

I've been looking for a good old-fashioned western by GraphicAudio without obligating myself to any of its vast related ranges. I just want a short and sweet dabble.
Today, I decided to purchase Golgotha: The Shotgun Arcana (Parts 1 & 2). Thankfully, pre-order prices are still in effect for both of its parts. Not exactly a traditional western, but I have a good feeling that I will be particularly enjoying its mixture of dark fantasy, steampunk and the Wild West. Its author (R.S. Belcher) has an impressive life experience biographical profile.

If you can find it, I HIGHLY recommend the NPR adaptation of Star Wars. It's an ambitious (and astonishing) project that worked incredibly well and has remarkably held up all these years later: www.npr.org/2015/12/18/460269884/that-time-npr-turned-star-wars-into-a-radio-drama-and-it-actually-workedBasically, George Lucas had sold NPR the rights for $1 and they were able to expand the original film into 13 half hour episodes, with lots of backstory incorporated from the original treatment. So you get to find out more about Luke's friends at Tosche Station, how Leia acquired the Death Star plans and what motivated her to complete the mission herself, and experience other cool moments that add to the original movie experience instead of seeming like a "side step." Best of all, NPR had the entire library of Ben Burtt's sound effects to work with and alternate cues from the score, so it really is like listening to a movie. Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels reprise their roles as Luke and C3PO. The rest of the new cast take a little getting used to, but they do an admirable job stepping up to such iconic voices and the production is fantastic. They eventually did Empire and Jedi, but there's a sad and strange dip in quality as the series goes on - namely falling into the "awkwardly describe what you're seeing" script trap. Somehow the first Star Wars story avoided that, and fortunately it can be listened to and enjoyed on its own. If you hadn't heard it, I highly recommend tracking it down! I got the Star Wars adaptation in a Humble Bundle. It's fantastic.

I've been doing housework, so loaded up my MP3 player. So I listened to a radio-only Agatha Christie ('Butter Served in a Lordly Dish') that was found a few years back, the first episode of the last series of Pilgrim, episodes of some podcasts (Undisclosed, Actual Innocence, Tracks and Attaboy Clarence) as well as some BFs ('The Trail of the the White Worm' and 'Dreaming of the Water' plus an episode of Who's Round). Very mixed bag!

Today, nostalgically gazing at my BBV audio collection, I decided to revisit Zygons: Homeland. I love its bleak ending, which is something that you don't usually get with Big Finish audios published after the new TV series began. From the trio of BBV produced Zygon audios. The Barnacled Baby is probably the best one. It features Bobby, "Queen" of the Zygons and has some risqué breast sucking on audio - the good old pioneer days. And yes, I'm guilty of having a warped sense of reality!

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I mean, it covers the basics, but I felt that non-fans (as if there's people out there who don't enjoy Sir Pterry!) might have found it a bit baffling.

I'm midway through the BBC's adaptation of A. S. Byatt's Possession. It's one of my favourite books and I've been scouting around for this adaptation for a while. I'm enjoying it, although the structure of it - it's told in flashback from a point at the end of the novel - was a bit baffling for an episode or two. The actors are well-cast, and it covers a lot of the novel in the parts I've listened to so far. It also stars Jemma Redgrave as Maud Bailey, who fits my picture of that character almost perfectly.
