zap2it.com/2016/07/john-barrowman-talks-bring-torchwood-back-to-tv/That headline is a bit of an exaggeration, judging from what he reportedly said at comic con, it's very early days and he's merely beginning to explore options, no need to panic/get excited yet, he may merely have just been placating the comic con audience. But let's say a TV return does happen in a couple of years, what would that mean for Big Finish? -weren't BF planning an audio only series 5 at one point? -How would this effect BF's license and exposure? Would the BBC cancel the license, could they see a downturn in sales? (That's even assuming the BBC would have involvement with a hypothetical series 5...I can't see an American network being too concerned with the continuity and exposure of audio dramas...) -Would you be happy to see Torchwood return without RTD's involvement, and move back to the constraints of live action over the freedom of fan aimed audio productions?

I know he and his sister co-write the Comics/ Graphic Novels but it would be nice if he showed a little of that enthusiasm when he's being filmed in public, for the Audios and BF.
EDIT
Paying proper attention now TV Revival highly unlikely surely? Rights and Funding issues are a bit of mess now aren't they? Regards

Why would the BBC cancel the licence given their experience of BF and Doctor Who?

I can imagine BF being restricted to only doing stories prior to any new series.
Best case scenario would be that BF would get to do some sort of prequel set, much like Miracle Day had three prequel novels.

Hmm. Well, Torchwood seems to be making a trickle of a comeback. I believe the Big Finish series has been successful, don't know about the comic. It might be enforced by the fact that Cpt. Jack could return in the Christmas Special, which has allegedly been filmed.

Hard to say how close this means Torchwood really is to making a comeback, but if there's a champion of the show it's certainly John Barrowman. Even if Torchwood doesn't return as a TV series I would be glad for Captain Jack to at least return to Who. There aren't too many characters in Who that can really span the centuries of The Doctor's life. It'd be interesting to see Jack pop up in an unexpected way.

Before John can no longer reasonably play a character that doesn't age or die, I would love to see a story that explains how the Face of Boe transformation came about.

So whats the deal with the supposed rights/funding issues for Torchwood? In general or specifically? In general these things will need to be sorted out, as they always would. Specifically? Depends what you mean by your question.

I look forward to the BF Boxset "Outbreak" and hope there are many more! A TV revival is unlikely to say the least.

Especially if Starz had the rights to co-produce any followup.

Exactly its not clear if Starz have relinquished their TV rights yet but any new deal/show would need BBC Worldwide involved as they are Licence holders.

It may not be clear to us, I would be surprised if BBC Worldwide were unclear. Besides, if your in talks to make any TV program, you either talking to the people that can, or your just talking to people about a fantasy you have. What I mean is, if JB really is in talks, then rights issues are either resolved or being addressed.

Knowing who to speak to, speaking to the right people, and getting their agreement are three separate steps though. John would clearly have access to the first, is hopefully doing the second, but as to achieving the third? Only time will tell, it always does.

This might answer the question of who those "certain egos" might be.
