The latest issue of Vortex reminds everyone that the first episode aired 22 October so maybe it will be released around then? (This year 22 October is a Saturday, though.)

I'd guessed it would be released on the anniversary itself, though as you say it's a Saturday, and also there's a risk of it being swamped by the big Who-related event that day - the premiere of Class.

To be fair, I don't think anything will be 'swamped' by Class.

The timing could've been a bit more tactful maybe?

The timing could've been a bit more tactful maybe? It's a new tradition. Every 10 years BBC 3 premieres a new Doctor Who spinoff. Wonder what it'll be in 2026?

Yeah, I think it's actually pretty cool (rather than tactless) that the Class premiere will be exactly ten years after the first episode of Torchwood aired. (And I didn't realise that before seeing this thread!)

I don't see it as being tactless. Torchwood has been off the air for years, so aside from the BF release, it's not like Class is really conflicting with it. It's only the die-hard fans who are going to care about the anniversary - hell, I didn't even realise 22nd October was the anniversary, so who knows if Moffat/Ness/whoever runs BBC scheduling knows that it's the anniversary of Torchwood too.

Well, if they promote it any less than Class, no one will realise its existence until 2028 most likely... Seriously though guys, what the hell is Class all about? We need a trailer!!! The Sarah Jane Adventures' trailer gave an indication of what the show was going to be about, and Torchwood was marketed as 'adult Doctor Who'. Class claims it's going 'to be sexy' and go to darker places than the 'Whoniverse' has ever gone before... have they even heard of Torchwood? This show is meant for a young adult audience - the chances of it outdoing Torchwood are relatively low. Sorry for sidetracking into a Class discussion (but I think my point still stands).

Another event on October 22 is the premiere of Dirk Gently on BBC America, which is only slightly on-topic in that Samuel Barnett will appear in both - in the title role in DG, and returning as Norton Folgate in The Torchwood Archive...

Dirk Gently is also a Doctor Who spinoff, strictly speaking, so slightly less tangential than initially thought.

The first Dirk Gentley novel features Dirk interacting with the cast of Shada, including the Doctor's time lord friend Professor Chronotis, though all the Doctor Who references were downplayed or removed when importing stuff into the novel. It also riffed off a lot of stuff from City of Death, though that's more just thematically similar.

No, unless I've missed something very subtle, they're quite separate. Although I think Adams may have been considering reworking the third Dirk Gently book he was working into a Hitchhikers sequel instead (the sixth in the trilogy...) Both Dirk Gently novels are excellent, though quite different. Enjoy reading them!

Looks like the code is available online - thanks to Scott Handock for retweeting!
It seems the extract is the first 23 minutes - I haven't listened to it yet though.

Anyone listened to the excerpt? I'm torn between getting the first half hour or just waiting until what I assume will be a release next week for the whole thing to drop.

I don't bother listening to excerpts of things I know I'll be ordering anyway, most of the time. I used to, but I stopped doing that. I mostly use excerpts to decide if I want to buy something, so basically listen if I'm not sure about getting something.

I avoid the teasers on the website and excerpts like this. Too often big casting announcements or major parts of the story are revealed and I'd rather not be spoiled.
Like Ela, I see no point to listening when I know I'm going to / have already ordered.
