Great sale, grabbing some of the short trips I don't own yet - basically, The Toy and the bundle of single release stories. I bought the first 4 volumes of short trips in a previous sale, and I'm a subscriber, so have all the subscriber short trips; I've listened to them all except "Sound the Siren..." and all the ones I've listened to were excellent stories.

OH MY GOD! I never thought this would happen. I had resided to myself that Musuem Piece would never be part of my Who experience and a John Dorney Second Doctor story I never knew about?
Sadly, currently on a business trip and won't be able to listen to these stories until Tuesday.

Is 'Lepidoptery for beginners' the first thing John Dorney wrote for Big Finish? Pretty much. I think it was roughly simultaneous with Remember Me for Sapphire and Steel, and may just have had the edge. And what a good story it is. I didn't even remember that you wrote it. As I said, I seem to love everything that you write, whether or not I know it's by you at the time.

Remember Me is one of the best BF dramas I've heard, so if this means LFB is even better then I'm definitely going to have to buy it.

Though I like them both a lot. Actually, I think technically the first BF release I ever wrote was Waiting for Gadot, though it didn't get made for ages. (I wrote it to submit to the 'How the Doctor changed my Life...' collection but never submitted it as I got the actual gig shortly afterwards!).

I listened to Museum Peace, a very well told story and I loved Nick's reading of it. I mean you couldn't ask for a better reader. But I just don't think I will ever love the Short Trips format because the whole time while I was listening I was thinking I really wish Paul McGann could have read this with Nick Briggs.
I'll continue to buy ones that sound interesting to me (they are so inexpensive after all) I just know this range is probably never going to be a a personal favorite of mine. Happy they are continuing and releasing more for the many who do enjoy them.

I love Paul McGann, but didn't think his voice was necessary for this story to be great just as it was produced.

I was just voicing my own opinion and that I have trouble getting into the Short Trips even when its a great story and with a reader as great as Nick I still would have liked another voice. It's a constant issue with me in this range. But I am only speaking for myself and what I personally would enjoy not saying I think the range should change or not exist. I get lots of other people enjoy it exactly as it is and I am happy they do.

Any particular reason for the capitalization of YOUR? Why was the emphasis needed? I have to admit, I bought Short Trips Volumes 1-4 only because they were on sale for a ridiculously low price a few years ago. I found them to be variable in quality. I liked some more than others, and often for the reason you cite. But I have found most of the more recent Short Trips that I've heard (and especially the Subscriber Short Trips) to be fairly consistently good. I loved Museum Peace because of its focus on Kalendorf, who was a fantastic character in the Dalek Empire series. I didn't really feel that the Doctor was the main event in that story.

Sorry about the Your if I am being honest It was in response to the Huh of your post. I felt I needed to defend my opinion & I wasn't sure why when I thought I made it clear in my previous post that the format just doesn't work for me personally not that there is anything wrong with it. But I was also responding after being tired after a long day at work so forgive me if I sounded annoyed. It was wrong of me! I do like many of the Short Trip stories (and I enjoyed the story told here) but I have trouble staying engaged when it's just one reader even if I like the reader. The mention of Paul Mcgann had nothing to do with wanting the Doctor there more that I would have enjoyed it more if the conversation had two distinct voices. But that just isn't what the Short Trips is.

The "huh" wasn't meant as an attack of your opinion, sorry if it came off that way, kimalysong. And thanks for your apology, too. I prefer full cast stories myself, rather than narrations, which is why I wasn't initially buying Short Trips and Companion Chronicles. Though quite a few of them have turned out to be better than I expected.

Do I need any background for Museum Peace, or can I jump straight in? Any necessary backstory is given in the story. I haven't heard Dalek Empire, but found Museum Peace a touching story.
