I'd say wait and see....have a listen first before rolling out the criticism. What? What? WHAT? Waiting until you hear something before passing judgement? Turn in your pass to post on a internet message forum. Some people. Jeez.

I'm just basing this on the experience of the first box set where some stories were so close to the TV story that it was barely worth it.
From a branding and coherence POV I feel it's a really silly decision which just unnecessarily confuses the potential audience.

Based on what we know about the second set it certainly seems like Briggs is mixing elements of the original series with his own take on the material to form something that is both new while also being something familiar. No one was more surprised by how well this stew worked on volume one than me. Well, others may have been more surprised but I digress. Here is hoping volume two is of the same quality that the first one was.

I think Nicholas Briggs said that the original plan for Vol 2 was to do three remakes and one original like Vol 1, but he said he had changed this. Maybe that means the "remakes" are going to be more different from their TV counterparts. I agree with you - the remakes in Vol 1 just didn't work for me because I pretty much knew how everything would play out. I like to think that Nicholas Briggs will add more of his own ideas now - "Your Beautiful Village" was easily my favourite and one of the best Prisoner stories I've seen/heard. He's a fantastic and innovative writer.

Looks like the No. 2s for this set are Lucy Briggs-Owen, John Heffernan, Deirde Mullins and Michael Cochrane.

I'll give this a miss after experiencing the first box set. Patrick McGoohan had already stated that he thought there were too many episodes as it is. The first box set did nothing to convince me otherwise.

From a branding and coherence POV I feel it's a really silly decision which just unnecessarily confuses the potential audience. This may not actually be such a bad thing for some of us who either aren't that familiar with the original series, or who might be having trouble re-connecting with the TV series. I keep wanting to try to go back to the TV episodes and try to rekindle a fondness for whatever it was I saw in The Prisoner or The Avengers, but that may not actually work as well with either series as just trying to appreciate them as what are probably some very good Big Finish audio dramas. The possibility of different directions is also enticing with The Prisoner, though - I basically remember the show as being about "Why did the Prisoner resign?" and "Who is Number One" but it did carry a sense that if we ever found out, the series would probably ended, so I think it started to take on a sense that it wasn't really going anywhere because it didn't dare to. I wouldn't expect Big Finish to answer those questions but the descriptions I'm reading, both here and on the BF website, are sort of giving me a renewed sense that the series can go places.

Your loss, I'd say that vol 1 was one of the strongest releases of 2016

Your loss, I'd say that vol 1 was one of the strongest releases of 2016 A friend lent it to me as he knew I was a fan of the tv show. As a fan of the tv show I thought it was awful.

I just fastforwarded through anything bloody prisoner related in this week's podcast. Between that and the tangents (I don't care who likes them, it's bloomin' annoying when they happen in the middle of emails and go on for five minutes) I got through the news and emails sections very quickly. Reading out the early review quotes, naturally all positive and no negatives, was pure ego stoking.

I'm quite tempted by the 'Prisoner' range, but the price puts me off.
At £35 to download volume 1 it is just too expensive. I know it was discounted by 20% in the Big Finish Summer Listening offers, but it was still too expensive at £28! Assume they'll only properly reduce the price once they sell out of CD's otherwise no one, apart from devoted fans, would pay £40 for a CD if the download was just £20.
The irony is that £20 for volume 2 is fine, but I don't want to miss out what precedes it.

I had no interest in The Prisoner, but after listing to the free excerpt for episode one au was impressed and thought to myself I'll give this a go, but then I saw the price! That soon cooled my enthusiasm. I can understand Nick wanting to do a special edition, but they really should have given a standard edition option. At the Moment series 1 would need to be half price before I thought about buying. And if they sold out of the CDs I wouldn't bother.
