Sounds like a really unique premise that inverts probably the oldest chestnut in the franchise. I have faith in Wanisko.
That said, how many will be listening, just to get the answer of 'why didn't I win?'

Not me. Everyone knows Americans don't know what makes for good Doctor Who.

Not me. Everyone knows Americans don't know what makes for good Doctor Who. I'm sure it'll be excellent.
It keeps swapping for 2nd place with Quicksilver for the release I'm most intrigued by.

It's worth noting that the first review was very negative. I read it to my daughter, on whom Odessa was closely modeled, and she said "Daddy, why did you have to ruin her life?"
She then informed me that she intends to write some fan fiction to correct the problems with the story.

There was a story changes but the ending stays the same quality to it. The Seventh Doctor changing enough to ensure a brighter future without destabilising established history.

Ah Family can be the firmest critics. Good luck to her hopefully she writes at least as great as her Dad
Well I enjoyed it immensely, and have admit I LOL'd at 7th's view on fixed points
A fine debut sir!

Haven't had a chance to listen yet (I'm at work - curses!), but just want to say how sporting it is of Big Finish to provide a PDF of the submission.
Finally we have something to use as a sample for next year's competition - obviously not for copying the idea, but just the reassurance of knowing that the format is right is a boost!

I have downloaded it and I will look forward to listening to it soon.

I've never listened to any of the short trips. On average, how long are they usually?

Not me. Everyone knows Americans don't know what makes for good Doctor Who. You know what's funny about this post is that I stared at it for a little too long thinking "I wonder if this is serious or not" cause I didn't realize you were THAT (other) Josh -_- Looking forward to listening to this later! Great premise, certainly.

I have downloaded it and I will look forward to listening to it soon. I think the only time it came up was in a brief exchange in the ongoing Big Finish updates thread, so if you missed that, it could have easily passed unnoticed. I didn't want to make too big a deal of it, in part because I was very self-conscious of the fact that I had never known Paul. He passed away before I joined the community, so I never had any personal interactions with him like so many other people here did. So I did feel like a bit of a fraud, and I was acutely aware of how lucky I was, in that it wasn't just the quality of the story, but various other external factors over which I had no control that led to it being selected. At the end of November, I was listening to Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, which is a current events quiz show on public radio. They have a segment called Not My Job, wherein they ask a celebrity questions unrelated to their area of expertise. The guest that week was Country Music star Garth Brooks and he said something that struck me as particularly relevant to my situation. From the transcript of that episode. That made me think of my situation. My story was selected as the winner. Was it good? I think so. I’m happy with it and proud of it. Was it the best story submitted? I don’t know. How are you going to measure that? I would venture to say that every one of the stories on the short list was as good as mine. There are so many factors so far outside of your control in a situation like that that you may as well call them luck. Is there an similar story in the pipeline? Does the television series have a similar story planned? Does the proposed story work in the time constraints and the format of the range? Is it a fit for their vision? In the end, I decided to stop questioning it, because the people who knew and loved Paul picked what I had written as a way to honor him, and I’m proud that I could be a part of that.

I didn't do my submissions like that, so I think I'll just resubmit my first story next time in that format and rework some of it. My second submission was pretty terrible but I still really believe in my first idea. Maybe if those of us who have stories we're desperate to tell write them in Josh's structure next time, we'll have more luck?

I think you have the right attitude, generous and humble, and that's a great tribue to Paul in itself!

Indeed, you may feel lucky Josh but hey you need to be in it to win it and there is some truth in making your own luck by being positive and going for it.
Ive downloaded and look forward to listening, and it is great a Divergent Universer won. Well done that man!

A lovely story and a great addition to the Short Trips range... plus it's free! What is there not to like about it?
Well done Josh; Forever Fallen was a very enjoyable story.
