I thought your interview was very good. Enjoyed listening it. You're very kind. I was nervous and I do think I could have done better. I mean, how do I mess up a softball question like, "Who were your influences?" (For this story, Hayou Miyazaki and Grant Morrison's All Star Superman, in case you were wondering) The best thing to come out of it was that I recognized that I could have done better, so I looked where I didn't do as well as I could have and took those lessons to my Regen Who panel and I was much happier with my performance there. Some friends were kind enough to record it, and I'm meeting them tonight, so I'll see if I can grab the file and upload it somewhere. I do have a question about your influences. Have you ever read the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman? I found a very big similarity to a story in it, yet I can't seem to remember the issue. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. I think I know the story you mean. There was the character of Hob Gadling. Dream and Death are in a tavern and they overhear Hob speaking and Death gives him immortality at Dream's request, with the condition that he meets Dream every hundred years to give him a status update. I knew about him (and the final appearance, with Hob at the Ren Faire may be my favorite comic book moment) but I wasn't specifically seeking to emulate it. That said, I was aware of it and when people who knew Sandman but didn't know Doctor Who asked about the story I would describe it to them that way.

Ian Atkins is their guest on this week's podcast, and he gives some advice on putting a story together for this year's competition, and he's probably the person who can speak most authoritatively on the subject. www.blogtalkradio.com/raconteurroundtable

I just listened to this one again, and it's just as good as the first time. Is it possible that the first Paul Spragg story is still the best?

Just relistened to it again myself - and expected to have that same opinion... And I did. No slight against any of the other winners of course - it's one of the best Short Trips overall as well!

Ahahaha... i redownloaded Forever Fallen a month or two ago in anticipation of a re-listen.... I'm really looking forward to it. It was the first ST I listened to, and I think probably the best. It's certainly one of my favorite Doctor Who stories in any media, that's for sure.
