GoT Considering how disappointing this run has been, this wasn't actually bad. Some of it was pretty good. Tyrion felt like the same character from the first 7 seasons again for one and the mirroring of Season 1 Ep 1 with the Stark kids truly now being the Stark adults was good even if I'm not sure Sansa was in character. Still massively rushed, ignores far too many things that I'm 100% sure Martin will not in the books (his expansion of the events similar to what we saw in Ep 3 will be a treat) and I don't quite buy where a few characters end up. Some seemed to be there based not on logic or reason but fan-fave status. Especially a scene near the end where everyones fave non-Starks get a fun happy scene. I liked it for what it was but it did feel like they were thrown together to appease. I know some people think this year has ruined GoT. I thought Season 7 was quite bad too, to be fair, and with the glut of spinoffs HBO has already either commissioned or explored, the brand will be diluted in a few years anyway. For better or worse. Anyone who doesn't see an issue with the pace this year though...I don't get them. We've got two major time jumps in this, the events occurring during those jumps would have been 2 or 3 episodes just a few seasons ago where the characters machinated and schemed, we saw alliances be built and betrayed. Now...it's a jump cut or fade to black. GoT was one of the ultimate rewatch, binge shows. Now it'll rewatch in a terribly jarring way. {Spoiler} Why would Greyworm and the Unsullied take John prisoner? They've shown no mercy to everyone...but the person that kills their Queen gets to await trial? I could only buy this if there was someone with Westeros ethics who commands respect from Unsullied and Dothraki alike but Dany is dead, Tyrion and Jon betrayed them and Davos is just another soldier to them. Perhaps the timejump was to help us ignore that, as it seems to me the biggest plot hole of the season by some way. Jon's plot armour survives to the end! Greyworm would have slit his throat and there would have been no-one to talk him out of doing so.

Completely different creative teams for the new shows so I think they'd be silly to worry that one shows issues would carry over to the other. Benioff and Weiss are off to do their Star Wars films while Jane Goldman is showrunning the first spinoff, which Martin has referred to as The Long Night. With a totally different cast, time setting and creative team it could go either way but I don't see GoT's quality this year having any mark on it. If it did...wouldn't that therefore mean the first 5 or so seasons of the new spinoff would be great? Another niggle I had with the ending which I guess can be written off but still rankles that it wasn't even debated... {Spoiler} Not one of the leaders of the Six Kingdoms objected to the North getting both independence AND Bran to rule the rest of Westeros. Surely it's one or the other?

Game of Thrones finale, average conclusion but this series has been a huge disappointment, rushed story arcs, weird characters motivations it just lacked heart & emotion for me. I'm just gonna pretend it never happened. From now on, Season 8 will be referred to as "The Season That Must Not be Named" They haven't got Martins source material now like earlier seasons & it's shows in the quailty of the storytelling. Kinda getting used to being disappointed by tv shows & films, the heart & passion ain't in them like the old days.

Again assessing it just as a viewer not a fan, it was a very good series (almost perfectly filmed) but variable storytelling.
What do people think of the idea of a GOT Retrospective Thread for more detailed and Spoilery discussions?
Subverting Audience expectations is a gimmick that's always going to be subjective so they'll either restore the majority audience confidence in Star Wars or not.

Well, they had Martin's ending - which he did give to Benioff and Weiss a few years ago in case he died - and having years of foreknowledge of where the saga was heading didn't make this ep a masterpiece either. I think far too much is made of them not having the books to crib from. The issues this year are almost all ones of pace from having to squeeze far too much into 6 eps. I've not had too much of an issue with where the major characters have gone, just in how they've been shown to get there. The writing of Dany has had the most criticism but I think with 4 more eps and more time to show why she does what she does there'd be a lot less hate for what she's become. Apparently in the UK and US there are thousands of kids called Daenerys and Khaleesi as their parents loved her "breaker of chains" shtick. Wonder how those parents feel now. By the way, for a bit of a DW thing, Arya.... {Spoiler} ....got pretty much the same ending as Maisie did playing Ashildir/Mee in Season 9 of Who! Must be something about her that suggests open-endings looking for adventure in the unknown!

15 Days - Just because you can do a 4 day, 4-part, 'event' television series doesn't mean you should...

GOT.......wow left field conclusion but was a good, bittersweet ending but would have been so much better to have them both........oh better not spoilers
But I have liked this season, it delivered with out the padding.........sure I want more but this way is better than give too much........
And as series endings so they did good, over the years there have been many terrible finales.......finge, lost, more recently gotham.....
One happy viewer here......

Hello again.
If you fancy a very silly vampire sitcom can I interest you in What We Do in the Shadows. Really enjoyed the daft chasacters and the fly on the wall documentary approach.
Directed by Jemaine Clements and Taika Waititi with great wit and visual flair, this sitcom takes the vampire tropes and has a lot of fun with them.
Currently, showing two episodes weekly on Iplayer or Sunday BBC2 from 21:45 BST.
Also enjoyed the charming Ghosts. Very different, almost old-fashioned but some very odd characters played by a great ensemble cast and a good premise. BBC Iplayer boxset
What do people think of the latest epic from the pen of Mr T. Davies, Years and Years starring Emma Thompson and a few Dr Who alumni? Apain BBC Iplayer and Tuesdays BBC1 21:00 BST.

Arrow S7 Ep21, all I'll say is glad this show ending next season it's the shadow of it's former self & these future forwards are irritating, for me season 3 where it peaked.
Think The Flash (The Iris & Nora West Allen Show) needs to end as well the last two series been poor.

Hello again. Channel 4 has confirmed that Humans is not being renewed for a fourth season. This is a great shame but one of the showrunners Sam Vincent put out this appeal. "If there's anyone out there with a few million quid and an interest in AI stories, we're all ears. DM us Elon." 😊 www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/humans/65442/humans-has-been-cancelled

I'm currently re-watching Fear the Walking Dead in the lead up to new season (I've just finished S3E6). While I liked aspects of the first three seasons, I didn't find myself "enjoying" them as such the first time through. Having seen the fourth season, I've realised why the first three didn't click with me the first time around - they were so separated from The Walking Dead that I kind of didn't feel any reason to get that attached to any of the characters. Now, though, I'm loving the first three seasons in comparison to fourth, as I found the fourth boring because, ironically, it ported over a TWD character, destroying the sense of isolation FtWD had and making the story universe seem much smaller. With another character crossing over in Season 5, I'm worried Fear is going to lose that separate feeling and, by extension, some of its own identity, but I'm prepared to give it a shot. What little we know about the season has me more than a little intrigued, to say the least...

Ghosts - Episode 6 Brilliant series from the Horrible Histories lot. Hope there is a second
Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6 Now for me this finale did work, everyone ended up where i think they needed to truly. I just agree with everyone, it needed at least 150 minutes more to flesh out how they got there because it was rushed
The Other Two Episodes 1 and 2 Saw the advert last minute and thought i'd give it a try. Loved it. Laughed out loud at the absurdity of it all

Hello again.
Agree with you on Ghosts. I think like Only Fools it needs another season to find its niche.
I loved the characters and how you discovered how they met their end. The trouserless Tory MP is a particular highlight. The conflict between the new owners and the naughty ghosts did make me laugh.
However, that twist at the end of episode 6 was really good and contrasted with the good-humoured jollity that preceded it.
I am hoping we see more. They are a talented troop of actors/writers and I loved Yonderland and their Shakespeare film Bill.
