Unlike you, there are people who will also refuse to listen for the mere fact of the medium it's on, and won't have the chance to experience excellent characterisation. It's not a light story, that's for sure. I always try to give people a fair chance ... dammit, that means I'm going to have to re-ponder Ninth Doc Chronicles aren't I? Cheers Tony You'll get to experience Adam not being useless and Jackie Tyler peddling the latest fad craze. In terms of style it's most like Destiny of the Doctor, so if you liked Night of the Whisper you shouldn't have much issue with the Ninth Doctor Chronicles. There's a fifteen minute sneak peek at the end of a couple of podcasts back if you want to try more than the trailer sound bites.

Andy got a really effective lesson in how while Torchwood can seem glamorous, it can get really nasty. This story is his Countrycide, seeing the face of human depravity and this time Jack doesn't crash in on a ruddy great tractor. There's no excitement beyond the initial investigation, and at the end of the day he's forced to do nothing about the situation. You know things are seriously screwed up when one of the two characters with the best morality is the Weevil, and the only non-human character who appears for more than one scene.
A much needed moment of levity I did appreciate was at the beginning, when Owen seems to eat through Andy, getting him the gutbuster meal and applying the vinegar and ketchup. Apparently Andy even finished it because Owen asked about the donut afterwards.

This has to have been the most shocking episode since Countrycide.
I never liked Owen Harper in series 1 on TV, I still didn't like him at the start of this but I have to say BF are continuing to rehabilitate characters without changing their essence. Burn Gorman is superb in this, it didn't feel like it's been over 10 years since he played Owen. I hope he does more ...
This for me is classic Torchwood and is quite possibly my favourite audio so far in the Torchwood range - absolutely brilliant, top notch ... really top notch writing!
Cheers
Tony

I don't think I've ever been this stressed out listening to an audio before. Holy crap! I was actually nauseous for parts of it. I've missed Owen and am so glad he's back. He's such an ass, but he does come through when he has to. This story had me laughing out loud in the beginning to feeling horrified by the end. What a journey. One of the best they've done.

This is probably my favourite of all the episodes featuring the Cardiff crew - the story was fantastic, it was dark and gritty which is what I have been wanting from the series for a long time. Burn is a great actor and I'm happy that he has finally been able to do a BF and I really hope that he does more as I am very interested in seeing what BF will do with Owen.

Jesus Christ. That was amazing. I think I'm going to be sick. What the ever loving fiddlesticks was The Committee trying to accomplish, giving him a baby Weevil?

I'm more than a little queasy when it comes to all things ... {Spoiler} ... birth, babies and all that ... ... so this release soon made me very nervous. I could recognise the reason for the woman's discomfort the first time I heard it, and ... oh! The following story did nothing to calm my nerves. This is really, really dark territory for a show/range that isn't afraid to feature controversial material. For that reason, I'll have to be strong of stomach before I listen again. Which I will, I'm sure! This is a deadly dark, twisted little gem of a story given the usual excellent Big Finish flourishes. Burn Gorman proves to be well worth the wait. He's brilliant throughout, nailing the balance of light and shade his character possesses. I hope it isn't long before he's back in this range - it sounds likely, given what a good time he appears to be having in the extras. The whole cast are terrific, in fact, with only the 'sorry' girl being a little overstated. But then, in these circumstances, I suppose she has every right to be! Horrifyingly good.

I still don't like Owen. I will never like Owen in the way I do Gwen, Ianto, and Tosh. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Owen is certainly a fascinating character and Burn Gorman is a terrific actor. Also the Owen/Andy team up was just about perfect I would love to see more of them. As the Extras said they are both flawed characters in very different ways and they had an interesting chemistry going on here. Although now that we got Burn back I really hope to see some S1&2 full cast stories.
But as for this story it was definitely intense. Wow. But I am wondering whose side are you on Owen's or Andy's. I mean was it okay for them to just walk away from all that? I am not really sure. What exactly are those creatures going to eat? And yet I actually liked how surprisingly life affirming this story was. I am just not sure everything was thought through here. It seems choosing life is also choosing responsibility and you can't just walk away from that.

God I love this range. Miles ahead of half the dross they had on TV. Burn is an excellent actor. I loved the scene of him trying to get Andy to eat things.
Owen was always a terrible person and I thought he was slightly out of character for a while, but they explained it in the end.
The second half was difficult to listen and utterly excellent.

Just finished this on the way to work this morning. Definitely brutal and intense.
I do have to wonder about them leaving the family to themselves at the end. Can they really get by without any help? It's been so long since the women have been in the real world, how are they going to get supplies and such?

This is actually the first audio story I've listened to that's given me a bit of a nightmare, so I think that speaks to the memorability and effective imagery of this story. A relisten is in order, I think.

Hmm, in exit wounds Andy didn't recognise weevils, im going to go with he was sticking with the cover up story about the rift and didn't want to discuss with Gwen the extremely fucked up way he learned about weevils.
