I'll be purchasing, but can't provide any useful product details. I own the original VHS release for the US, but don't currently have a VHS player and haven't for quite some time now. It's not a great story nor very convincing (or exciting), but it's still a thrill to see all those Who actors together. Even more so at the time it was released.
But being a huge fan of Sarah Jane (Lis Sladen is amazing), I have to have it.

It's looking like One Media iP is the real publisher of the upcoming Downtime DVD. And its emblem is on the top spine of the DVD case diagram as proof! A brand new documentary of the "making of Downtime" and some other unseen bonus footage is expected to be included. I was hoping for a proper pressed (not DVD-R) multi region DVD, but it's looking like a region 2 format release only? My Downtime VHS copy may have to continue to suffice! I also believe that there will be a digital format purchase option, which I could end up utilizing. I actually much prefer Reeltime's Shakedown: Return of the Sontarans over (my assessment) the rambling viewing mess of the Downtime video. I haven't read the Downtime novel yet though.

For those of us who have come late to the Classic Who party, can someone please explain Downtime? I get that it was a DW spin-off with Elizabeth Sladen, but's that's all I know. Thanks.

It's a low budget straight-to-video project from the 90s. It licences The Great Intelligence, Victoria Waterfield, The Brig, Professor Travers from Abominable Snowmen/Web of Fear and put the, together. It's one of the more popular of the type - and there were loads - fof thse spinoffs rom the 90s. Marc Platt wrote it and Kate Stewarts in it.

It was unusual in that while a few of these videos featured monsters from the series (Auton, Shakedown, Mindgame) or characters from the series (PROBE), this featured both - and more significant characters from the series than some.
It is also significant that the characters were explicitly identified as the characters from the series whereas some others just hinted that the actor or actress may be playing the same character (like Sophie Aldred saying that a friend of hers used to reverse the neutron flow...) and of course some seemed to be Doctor Who stories taking care not to mention anything explicitly defining it as such.
Downtown was filmed at my old University only there weren't any Yeti there when I was a student ...well maybe one (but everyone thought he was a honey monster)

Was odd seeing that as it's just down the road from me. But apparently it's full of evil teenagers typing away mindlessly at computers, and John Leeson as a radio DJ... Per Time Travel TV, there will be no download option available so DVD only. These are the extras per The Doctor Who Site:

Per Time Travel TV, there will be no download option available so DVD only. Could it be that Time Travel TV (Reeltime Pictures) won't be selling the digital option, only because they are not licensed to do so? And that Downtime will be digitally available from another source? Another query: will we be seeing Ian Levine's extra material fan project that included Sylvester McCoy in Downtime within this DVD release?

I've pre-ordered it, the Brig & Sarah Jane feature is more than enough for me to part with a few Lizzie Windsors.

I do take it to be part of the license as the DVD is being offered One Media IP. (If you search up their name on Amazon, they've also distributed stuff like The Sooty Show over the years...) So unless they already have iTunes or similar distribution already, I doubt they would use something like Vimeo which is often reserved for less professional productions. But then iTunes may be too costly (without enough demand) for them. So it's a possibility but I doubt it. Levine has always kept his material to private screenings due to the copyright involved (and the fact he has a pre-existing relationship with the BBC). So to see a copyrighted character unambiguously appear, alongside copyrighted imagery (the TARDIS used in the promo clip released is the new series one - not produced by Levine) which also presents issues. It would take begging the BBC to use the footage, and even then it's probably not going to happen.

There's a bit of a difficulty (thanks to timdalton007 on GallifreyBase for pointing out the quote)
Just seen a rather interesting post from Hannah Haisman-Hatt on Facebook that's making the rounds:
"OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE HAISMAN LITERARY ESTATE It has been brought to my attention that Reeltime Pictures and One Media are releasing Downtime, the Doctor Who spin-off film made in 1995, on DVD. This is being done so without my consent or permission. As Executor of the Haisman Literary Estate, and thus copyright holder of Lethbridge-Stewart, Professor Travers, the Great Intelligence and the Yeti I should have been approached over this. Attempts to negotiate have fallen on deaf ears, and my rightful claim has been refuted the producers. I have now been forced to take legal action to protect the copyright of my grandfather, Mervyn Haisman, after their refusal to renegotiate an agreement made twenty years ago for a film made for straight-to-video release only."

I'll stick this on my list of things to get then. It won't be head canon for me but then neither is "Scream of the Shalka".

It certainly looks worth a watch, if only to see what it's like. I'm sure that the computer aspects of the plot will have dated horribly, but it should be fun to see John Leeson and Geoffrey Beevers not playing K-9 and the Master (I just realised how that sounds).

Trust me, it's dated. But so has some stories from 60s/70s/80s Who.

So will this just be in region 2, or will I be able to get it on region 1?
