Considering it was A) essentially an afterthought tacked on at the end of TDOTD production and B) Moffat was still writing the script on the day, it's surprising and heartening just how good Night Of The Doctor turned out, in fact I'd go as far to say it was possibly the most fitting and tragic regeneration story so far. It is one of the most tragic stories without a doubt. A man clinging to just trying to be a good man in the midst of utter chaos loses the will to keep trying and abandons his beliefs to try and save lives the only way he can.

Two: Night of the Doctor: Awoke my classic era Doctor Who fandom which had been sleeping for way too long. "Wow! Karn, the Sisterhood of the Flame.. that was how long ago, I am *how* old now..?" Light at the End: Found it a year after the event, but it's how I found Big Finish and that was quite a find.

The Night of the Doctor.
Going to see The Day of the Doctor with my two good friends and a bunch of Who fans all decked out in cosplay.
Making some special 50th Anniversary memorabilia purchases.

Mcgann. I can still remember the shock of seeing it for the first time. It was not the Doctor I was expecting. Was very surreal. Sometimes I wish that the 8ths regen was part of the main anniversary episode and not a Web thing.
And of course the five-ish doctors reboot was great. Watched it a few times now over the years.

My memory was about 1 week after that, he was here in our home state of Adelaide, Australia. He asked me directly what I thought about it - so we conversed for about 30 seconds specifically about "Night Of The Doctor" .

Steven Moffatβs fondest memory (one where you either know the context or live in a blissful ignorance that should not be broken):
