It happens to all of us. One of my favourite stories is Transit and while it tends to get a lot of praise, there are some circles who go: "Ah... Yes... That book." Heck, I quite enjoyed the Time Monster, and was surprised to learn that it was so reviled. Speaking of Transit, is the book itself as wonderful as its DWM prelude? Better. There's just so much to like about it. It manages to cover a thoroughly alien Doctor in mourning for Ace, introducing a new temporary companion for him in the form of Kadiatu, addressing whether he has become too pronounced in Earth's history and every supporting character seems to be well-drawn and thoroughly likable from the Angel Francine to the human veterans of the Martian War. The only disappointment I faced reading it was the ending because it was time for the story to be over, I wish all books I've read had been like that.

Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough and Michael Braungart.
A thought-provoking alternative to the usual "Cradle to Grave" manufacturing processes and why "being less bad is not always good" for the environment. A utopian view of what we should be doing (eco-efficient rather than eco-friendly) and what can be achieved - see the new Ford (River Rouge) Motor Plant that was constructed using this philosophy (www.wipo.int/wipo_magazine/en/2009/02/article_0010.html)
Cheers

I just read that one a few months ago. It was the first DW novel I ever read.

Finished EarthWorld last night. Really enjoyed it. Such a great story and went in a direction i didnt expect. Sure had references to earlier arcs, but they were mentioned in such a way that you didnt have to have read them, so worked well for me
Makes me really want a boxset of Fitz/Anji adventures and audio adapts of Escape Velocity and EarthWorld (with edits/cuts of certain references of course lol)

Have you started/finished the next one in the series? Started it, but not really into it yet, if you know what I mean. I do. There were a couple near the end of the series that I found a little difficult to get into - mainly due to a slightly different writing style than seen in the rest of the series. I'm on the the final book now, then I'll be starting to work through the Big Finish offerings. Hopefully once I've read those Big Finish will be kind enough to have announced new books for us.

Yes, that would be nice, wouldn't it, coffeeaddict. I would love an announcement that they are reprinting the out-of-print books in digital form. Nick did say something in one of the podcasts over the last several months that "he'd heard something about that." But that might have just been a "Just imagine." Who knows?

Onto
"Guards! Guards!" (Pratchett) and "The Unabridged Mark Twain".
In the latter, currently in the midst of his nonfiction account of a European tour. I don't think I appreciated his wit in the least when they assigned some of his fiction way back in grade school...

just finished listening to series 4 of Benny, so I'm going to start reading "The Big Hunt" now before moving on to series 5.
also, I'm currently about half-way through "I wish someone was waiting for me somewhere" by Anna Gavalda. So far it is a truly terrific collection of short stories.

To belatedly answer your question, I made some headway on Where Angels Fear and not finding it hard to get into at all. I'm not a huge fan of the People, but I kind of like Clarence. And it has Brax. He's always interesting. So far so good, we'll see what I think when I've finished it.

Finished "The Big Hunt" - great premise and a very engagingly written book. But then I do like Lance Parkin Next up on my DW-related pile is "Palace of the Red Sun" by Christopher Bulis. I haven't really heard anything about this one (positive or negative), but I've enjoyed all the 6th Doctor novels I've read so far, so I'm looking forward to reading it.

The English Way of Death - I'm about half way through and started this ages ago...not because it's naff, I just keep getting distracted. I like how it is written, it suits Tom Baker and I can hear him in the story if that makes sense.
