Hello again. Musicals? Love them. Only seen Oliver in the West End, so my experience is from the soundtracks or films of the musicals. Favourites? West Side Story an out and out classic. Led Miserables beautifully rendered into English, not a duff song in it. Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame a dark masterpiece not for the children. A Chorus Line, a funny and sad insight into the school of hard knocks that is showbusiness. Fiddler on the Roof, a brilliant evocation of Jewish culture at the turn of the last century. Avenue Q, the Muppets for adults, with really funny songs and observations. These are just a few of my favourites. If you are interested in musicals past and current, try Elaine Page's BBC Radio 2 programme on Sundays between 13:00pm and 15:00pm. There really is a musical for everyone. Doctor Who and the Pirates really surprised me the first time I listened to it. Not to everyone's taste, but fun once in a while.

Favourites include Avenue Q, Rocky Horror Picture Show and one that many of you will probably never see is Fortune Falls, as it is a production written and produced for a Canadian group that don't tour, However it is one of the most offbeat and fun musicals I have seen live.

Gosh, I should also say it's easier for me to list those I don't like. As for favorites: Movies: Cabaret, Chicago, Fiddler Theater; Le Mis, A Chorus Line, West Side Story, The Lion King, The King And I, Barnum (I saw this with Jim Dale and Glenn Close on Broadway when I was a kid and it stuck with me ever since.), Guys and Dolls Those I haven't seen but love the music: Company, Hamilton (seeing it in October), Rent (yes, I know. I live under a rock), and probably a lot more.

1. Les Miserables (West End) 2. La La Land 3. Wicked

Everyone should see The Lion King Live its stunning, I also really enjoyed Grease and Oliver. On Film its Oliver! Grease and Rocky Horror. Regards mark687 I really want to see The Lion King. I can't possibly justify the amount they charge for a ticket alongside the costs of staying in London though. Maybe if it comes to the Scarborough Open Air Theatre one day.

Some movies put their credits at the start instead of the end. Holy Grail includes a hilarious bit about moose.

Hmm. I haven't seen most of my favorites listed here yet.
As far as film musicals for me, it's pretty much just: The Sound of Music Mary Poppins The Wizard of Oz Rocky Horror Picture Show Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog Kal Ho Naa Ho
But there are other musicals with a favorite song or two.
I am a big fan of Gilbert & Sullivan though, especially: Iolanthe The Mikado

Lol, I'm sorry, the reason i loathe musicals so much is that my dad would continually watch them & growing up all i kept hearing was the same old singing of songs i guess it's made me anti-musicals lol. But i know many people love em & would never disrespect there enjoyment.

I've not been to a Rugby match in many years, not since my age was in single digits. A trip to see the Crusaders or the All Blacks for my family meant a night with the house to myself, a pizza and watching TV. I even went to school near the Basin Reserve, and never had any interest in cricket. Best you avoid Camelot, its a silly place anyway. Watch out for la vaches!

Barring Snooker & Tennis I'm not into watching sports, musicals have just never appealed to me, people don't just break out into song & start dancing, can you imagine walking to your local newsagent to buy a paper & see Granny Rags across the street start belting out "the hills are alive with the sound of music" you'd think some inmates escaped the asylum lol.

And gone off to some studio to display their talent and cry out their sob story to mindless sheep.

I think people SHOULD break out into song. I think it would be awesome. I was a theater kid in high school and a theater major in college, I have 2 nephews who were in a cappella groups when they were in college and another one who is a professional musical theater actor. I've always been around people who break out into song. It's a wonderful thing.
