This is one of the first times that I have ever listened to a trailer of something I might buy and was so put off that I decided against it. Am I the only one that hates Nick's Eccleston impression? I didn't love it in the DOD story, but it was passable. I was so put off by the trailer. I don't think I could listen to it for too long. I think it's a passable enough impersonation but not strong enough to be an actual character, and not a solid representation of the Ninth Doctor. Based on the jokey snippets from the trailer I can't imagine any weightier dialogue being pulled off. Hopefully the stories will be so strong that if Christopher Eccleston ever hears them he'll be enticed enough to come back.

I listened to the trailer...I liked the music... I wonder if Murray Gold has secretly composed music for it?

Looking back at some of my posts earlier in this thread, I've realized that I may come across as a little snarky/entitled regarding this release...which wasn't my intention at all, I'm not particularly interested in these chronicles boxsets (and having listened to the trailer, still have concerns about the format), and I think I may have been projecting my own biases and opinions rather stronger than I should have done, so I'd like to apologize to anyone here (or on the small chance anyone from BF who is reading this thread) who feels I was a bit rude/offensive with some of my earlier posts, I'm certainly glad others are excited about this release...and that's £23 saved I can put towards a different BF release...

I've preordered this and listening to the trailer... I'm sure it'll be decent enough because it's BF, but I'm still not sold on the format. I'd still rather something more akin to Companion Chronicles as opposed to Nick Briggs narrating, but there you go. At least it's more stories for Nine.

I've not listened to the trailer yet, but I'm another who thought Stephen Beckett sounded naturally Eccleston-esque in The Kingmaker.

Nick Briggs introduces Nick Briggs narrating a story starring Nick Briggs as the majority of the characters you hear in this trailer, all of which sound like the Nick Briggs who has played so many parts in so many audios. That's not a whinge, or a complaint, it's just what is there. It's too much for me. I wonder how many 7/10 reviews he will get for this?

He's a great writer IMO and does a good job at voicing The Daleks and other monsters. Having said that, I don't think this release is going to be his strongest performance.

It's rather disgusting the amount of casual vitriol that gets thrown his way over on Gallifrey Base, to the point that a dedicated Briggs Bashing topic was made in an effort to stop it infecting other threads (rather unsuccessfully). It's rather unfortunate, really. I may buy two copies of the set, just to show my support.

I have moved from Gallifrey Base for the reason you mention, and for other general (all encompassing) vitriol that gets thrown around there. I don't feel I need to justify my comments, but in other threads I have lauded Nick Briggs' work, in Sherlock Holmes, The War Doctor, The Prisoner and beyond. Just to balance things out, like.

It's rather disgusting the amount of casual vitriol that gets thrown his way over on Gallifrey Base [...] It's rather unfortunate, really. I may buy two copies of the set, just to show my support. There's no real hatred here, just friendly (ish) jesting! Not everything someone does can be a classic. Nick Briggs has done great things for Big Finish and written some excellent Doctor Who stories over the years, including lots of brilliant Dalek stories. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. Nick's War Doctor voice for the Engines of War audiobook was uncanningly good; I thought it was a master performance. Unfortunately, after hearing the trailer for these Ninth Doctor stories, his Ninth Doctor voice just doesn't do it for me. I understand why Big Finish want to do Ninth Doctor stories while they have the licence, and Nick doing the voices might help keep the costs down for BF, as opposed to them having to employ somebody else to do them. However, without Christopher Eccleston these Ninth Doctor audios will not be for everybody. It doesn't mean that everyone who doesn't want to buy them is anti-Nick Briggs though!

Why didn't they make this release stories narrated by Camille Coduri and Bruno Langley? That would have made more sense to me.

It is entirely possible to like the overall body of a person's work while still being critical of individual parts. Certainly on this board it isn't hate or bashing. It is just expressing an opinion.

He was a big part of the Audio Visuals and BBV - who paved the way for Big Finish. If not for them, Big Finish might not have even existed!

Having a negative opinion about a story or the way something is presented (Whether you are happy Nick is doing the voices in these or not) is fine. But I never want to see someone from Big Finish attacked or bashed on here.

Just for the record, I'm a big fan of Nick's. I think he's a really talented guy and has had his hand in so many of my favorite BF stories, one way or another. So my comment about me "hating" what I've heard of this so far is not an overall comment on his body of work. In fact, one of the things that struck me when listening to the trailer was how surprised I was by my response to his performance. I don't usually have that reaction to his work.
