Very good apart my usual Romanna 2 feelings, Chris Jarman is Dorney's voice Clone, Polly Walker be still my heart, get her back for a Femme Fatale role with CB, SM or PG ASAP.

I enjoyed that. I think The Movellans are great as an outrageous enemy to battle with Daleks, but without them, their impact is naturally reduced. Having said that, Andrew Smith delivers his usual thoughtful and intelligent script and provides this rather wistful take on the robotic creatures. One tiny issue - I wish they hadn't modulated Chris Jarman's terrific voice. Chenek had to sound different to his fellow Movellans, so I suppose that's why the decision was taken. And yet Jarman's voice sounds so naturally impressive in the extras, it's a shame to 'reduce' (if that is the right word) him to just another modulated actor. Chenek, I think, would have been more effective without it.
That said, this is another solid release from a writer who seems incapable of turning in anything sub-par, and continues this strong series of 4DAs. Start of the end-of-seirs finale next month!

The Movellans, like the Autons, make me happy. They’re firmly second-tier, but nobody ever casts them as a menace that will destroy the universe unless the Doctor defeats them in the next 45 minutes. They’re jobbers and the Doctor knows it, they know it and they audience knows it. But that’s fine. It’s admirable even. Every franchise needs second-tier villains. Will Rogers said, “We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by,” and likewise, not every villain has to be an existential threat to life, the universe and everything.
The Movellans show up with a new plan and the Doctor thwarts them in short order. That’s what story was, and it’s exactly what I wanted it to be. That kind of straightforward plot really works well in this format.
There were some elements that reminded me of the King of Sontar, but that’s a good thing. Chenek was a memorable baddie. Also, it’s a small thing, but I like that Romana called herself a Gallifreyan rather than a Time Lord. She’s both, of course, but Gallifreyan seems more applicable and I like that Romana’s fussy, precise mind would make that distinction.

Really enjoyed it, and the script made good use of Romana this time! She had a lot to do, got to be self sufficient and made contributions to the plot. Some of the other ones this series I felt like she wasn't well used, but here she was active and intelligent.
This was one of the best this season I thought, nicely paced, good secondary characters and Polly Walker was great in her role as well. Something I will listen to again for sure!

'Doctor Who' can always hook me with an old-but-rare guest monster or a buried alien artefact and here we got both, so I was happy from the start. And Tom Baker and Lalla Ward perform a true Doctor / Companion partnership, just as it should be - after all, Romana did graduate from the Academy with rather higher honours than the Doctor...! This is a really good short story that wastes no time; it's the robotic Movellans who are buried, they will rise again, they do and the Doctor has only two episodes to stop them before they unleash - something deadly - on the Daleks. And then on everyone else in the Galaxy. But within that story Andrew Smith pulled off the trick (on me at least) of surprising us again with something about the Movellans we know perfectly well. {Spoiler}They appear attractive beings who can seem polite and cooperative, even friendly. For just so long as it suits them; they have no emotional responses but such is the human need for these that we project our expectations onto them. Their politeness is mere neutrality: if humans are no threat they will tolerate us - why waste a potentially valuable resource? Their cooperation is exploitation: a Movellan cooperates only when it has something to gain. The moment a human is worth more to them dead than alive, they will kill without hesitation. If we've seen 'Destiny of the Daleks' then we know this perfectly well, but the writing and Polly Walker's great performance still manage to give a jolt when Commander Narina shows its true logical colours. The prize is a weapon to defeat the Daleks once and for all. Chenek (Chris Jarman) is a very special Movellan with a dark past and which carries the memory of that darkness within it. But perhaps it also carries the memory of something else from the same source... There isn't much time for Fourth Doctor flippancy in a tense story, but the few such moments are good ones and I also liked the scene where {Spoiler} Chenek is in hot pursuit - the Doctor's driving a car at over 60 mph and still the Movellan is gaining on him - on foot! Did anyone else think of that now iconic T-Rex chase sequence? And the ending is a scene guaranteed to raise a smile. {Spoiler}Archeologist Carrie Pierce (Camilla Power) on realising who (and what!) the Doctor and Romana are, her intelligent mind having been expanded by events to accept the previously incredible as - perfectly OK!

I was talking to a friend about this story. The poor Movellans probably think that 2017 is going to be their big year, what with this story and the cameo on the TV show. They don't know that they're almost certainly going back into the vaults for another 40 years.
My friend suggested that the Movellans are in their ship waiting for the phone to ring, killing time by continually playing rock, paper, scissors to a stalemate.

They might get lucky and form a Hot Gossip tribute band.

I liked this quite a bit. Sure, a bit too much nostalgia and there's really zero sense of this being Series 18 but hey - it did something fun with the Movellans which I wasn't sure could be done. The bit that made me laugh was Romana flicking over the telly and finding Mork And Mindy. I've no idea why but it's the last reference I was expecting. Nanu-Nanu!

Solid story. Expands on the Movellans nicely, which wasn’t something I was expecting or wanting, but pleasantly surprised. Most importantly, the story doesn’t feel lacking because there’s no Daleks. Romana gets lots to do and I love the Doctor hanging about Baker Street.

Brilliant audio drama, great paced intriguing story which held my interest plus excellent performances from Tom, Lalla & Polly Walker.
Easily a 4/5.

Well that was interesting. I had to remind myself who the Movellans were, so long since I've seen that TV episode. Not sure I really bought the premise of why Chenek was the way he was emotionally, but I did enjoy the story overall.
