Bit disappointed (still) by the lack of anonouncements over the past few months (bar Captain Jack v2 with Ol Sixie), we know there has been a lot of studio sessions I was thinking about this recently when it suddenly occurred to me - Big Finish Day is less than a month away! Perhaps the next one will be more like a traditional BFD where they announce all kinds of new things (I seem to recall the 2015/2016 BFDs were particularly fruitful...).

Or, if we like to be more cynical- maybe they wait with further announcements until after the price increase....

Oh boy; I'd forgotted (blocked out?) how bad 'The Ultimate Evil' was until I read that synopsis. Still anything that saves me a few quid is always welcome

Still anything that saves me a few quid is always welcome I had a similar response back when "Mission to Magnus" came out. I was so excited to hear it, somehow having blocked the Target book from memory. Then I got it as part of a Humble Bundle and needed surgery to get my jaw back from the ground.

Still anything that saves me a few quid is always welcome Well, I did some research on the story on the WWW (I did not read the book and am not planning to) and from what it sounds like, this will be the ultimate ham and cheese sandwich for Colin Baker. Yes, it does not sound like Shakespeare and might not be something for every day, but sometimes, I just feel in the mood for something like it. I am quite sure that Colin will be amazing and that, of course, Mr. Dorney as script editor will do some of his magic.

Title of MR (sorry, still call it that) release 255 has been updated: Harry Houdini's War by Steve Lyons. Ol' Sixie will be meeting Harry Houdini by the looks of it (though the story details are not up yet). Have to say that I am quite looking forward to this one. I swear Sixie has mentioned Houdini several times in past releases, so hopefully this will be a great story. www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/doctor-who-harry-houdini-s-war-1285

It took him a few tries to remember the name - understandably distracted - but he got there! (Vaguely think that Ben might have mentioned him too or maybe it was Steven? Companions were always getting tied up and escaping so it could have been any of them! )
Love history-based stories - and Sixie - so this should be an MR highlight for me. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the title seems to nod to 'Harry Sullivan's War'. Quite sure. Almost sure...

Interestingly, Steve Lyons also gave us a Houdini tale in "Smoke and Mirrors" in the Destiny of the Doctor set with Five, Nyssa, Adric and Tegan against the Master. How often do we get authors to revisit historical figures they're written for?

I have generally quite liked Lyons' work for BF (Warlock's Cross being the exception that proves the rule), so I am hoping that this is to a good standard. The Fires of Vulcan, Colditz and his contribution to the first Klein trilogy were quite good IMHO. Lyon's work 'Killing Ground' for the Missing Adventures Range in the 1990s was also quite good and that was a Sixth Doctor adventure (one that I wish BF would adapt). Hopefully, this will bode well.

Definitely recommended. He was one of my favourite authors when I was first starting out. I think The Stealers of Dreams was among the first, if not the first, NDA I read. A planet that has outlawed fiction with all the consequences you'd expect (and a few more that catch you by surprise). The 2012 series Psycho-Pass reminds me a lot of it, now that I think about it. I've a great fondness for Killing Ground. It has this extraordinarily raw depiction of the Cybermen and their impact. On everything. The establishment of Agora as essentially this farm for organic components... The Bronze Knights created to rebel against them... Hegelia's obsession with them as these almost divine supermen... The retelling of The Tomb of the Cybermen as a children's picture book... The Doctor's own powerlessness and uncertainty in himself and the events on Agora... Boost his involvement as Johnny Morris did for Seven with Damaged Goods and you'd have a fantastic BF adaptation on your hands. A Cyber-story that explores firsthand what conversion feels like. If you'd like to hear more of his stuff, I highly recommend the Crossfire boxsets for Blake's 7. I could've been bluffed into thinking the scripts were recovered from the series's production office while it was still running.

I knew of Lyons from his work with the MA and BBC Books in the 1990s. I thought The Witch Hunters and Salvation (two BBC PDA adventures with the 1st Doctor) were excellent and the mentioned Killing Ground an exceptional story. Lost touch with Doctor Who for a while in the early 2000s so didn't really read much of the books and couldn't really afford the BF audios either. Killing Ground would be a fantastic release if BF adapted it. I agree with your analysis of it and I feel that there's so much in that novel that it would definitely benefit from a Damaged Goods style adaption. It also would 'stand' on its own enough to attract more of a casual listener than perhaps the recent adaptations of the NAs have done. I suppose the 'cost' of adaptation would be one problem and the whole issue of whether to 'use' Grant Markham (who is key to the plot in many ways) would be worth it.

........which is weird because in the podcast it was Jago and Litefoot Series 2. Possibly next week's (as they record multiple podcasts at once).
