In regards to this story, was it the BBC Radio version or the Missing Adventures book that came first? and also are there any differences in the story between the two, like there are with Downtime?

The radio broadcast had been delayed due to rights issues with the TV series, and I'm pretty sure this meant that the book ended up coming out much earlier than the series on Radio 2. Can't recall any differences per se.
(Mind you, I can't recall any differences between the VHS and book of "Downtime".... except the book has lots of things happening offscreen, so to speak!)

The Ghosts of N-Space radio play was recorded in 1994 and broadcast on BBC radio early in 1996, the Virgin MA novel came out in 1995. So what came first depends on your POV, as release dates apart, the novel was based on the radio play.
I have never read the novel, so can't say what (if any) differences there was between them...

Except for the fact that it was recorded "old style" around a microphone rather than in Big Finish style I would have loved to have heard BF "rebuild" this in their style. Alas not possible.

This was the first audio I ever got to listen to, so many years ago now, thus the standard off which everything else is judged, and the book complimented it perfectly, you could read and never listen, or listen and never read, and the differences are pretty small.
