I still don't know what to think of OcTomBaker. It's just damned odd. I presume it started innocently enough... "How do we make October 'Tom Baker Month'?" "'October is Tom Baker Month'?" "That's a rather long hashtag, can we shorten it?" "'October is Month'?" "No, we have to keep the 'Tom Baker' part..."

Is anyone still listening to the podcast?
From being a avid listener, since the format change. It’s just not interesting or fun anymore.
Never any news or titbits of info and no one seems to post anything after listening........
About 6 months since I listened, would be good to know how many do or don’t now.

Don't say that to Nick, he will mock you on the podcast. I gave up two years ago when they started cutting back on emails and letting their tangents overrun the podcast.

Truth be told last couple of months there hasn't been much worth posting, they've reduced the tangent Waffle but they've replaced it with Behind the Scenes interviews from releases that are due out soon ie that week in most cases.

I still enjoy the podcast but I've fallen behind, especially since it seems the whole podcast is taken over by either things I just recently heard, or things I don't want to hear yet. Not that much fun for me hearing bits from things that aren't out yet, if I hear a little I'll want to hear the whole thing. More tangents, I say. :-)

I'm still subscribed to the podcast, but truth be told these days I skip through most of it, with the exception of the behind the scenes segment and the fifteen minute teaser at the end. To me It has lost that 'something' since the format change that made the podcast a must listen to every week though I still think Nick and Benji make a good presenting double act. But I wish they would curb their enthusiasm to go off on a tangent when talking. It was a full twenty minutes into last week's podcast before we even got to Listeners Emails...

I don't want to sound like 'that guy', but what's a respectful period of time? It's been two-and-a-half years since Gareth Thomas died and we haven't heard a whisper about the possibility of a Blake recast. And as the last few years have shown us, with the deaths of Gareth, Jacqueline, and Paul, the cast aren't getting any younger. By the time a 'respectful period' has elapsed, we'll probably have lost somebody else, which would necessitate another respectful period, at which point there'll be no point in recasting any more as we won't really have any of the original cast left (and a recast Avon, Dayna, and Zen/Orac is starting to push being too much recasting for me - replacing one more person would probably be too much for me, and I'm all for recasts where and when necessary).
I think the best move at this point is to just go back to doing Liberator Chronicles (which I never really understood the need to end anyway). They needn't all be full Chronicles either. You could still do full cast stories focusing on one or two of the main characters (much like the majority of the full cast boxsets have been anyway) without a need to recast Avon. And, if you really wanted him in a story, you could do a narrated Chronicle. I don't really see the need to recast him, and the fact that they've already decided that they are going to do it seems a little uncharitable to me.

Yeah, it seems a little insensitive and perhaps tactless to have addressed recasting Mr. Darrow given that it's been barely six months since he passed away. The man did over 30 audios for them and was in a wheelchair toward the end. Talking about recasting so soon makes his death sound like an entertainment/business inconvenience as opposed to a sad loss.

Sorry my bad I think they meant they'll consider / re-cast after a respectful amount of time. it wasn't a definite we will re-cast it was more the option is on the table in the long term.

I think you work around Paul Darrow's death and then when the series is finished you do a recast of Avon, Blake, Gan, Servalan. Or you just close up shop and let the characters & the series die with the actors. Which probably reads as harsher than I intended.

Thanks for that comment, that made me pull up this part of the podcast to hear what they had to say.
I talked about recasting of Avon elsewhere here... and while I might not have said it directly, I was thinking it could not be done. I actually might be a little upset if they went out and looked for someone to do so. Now, if they stumbled across someone who could (as I said elsewhere) replicate both the Sound and Tone of Darrow's performance, then I would be OK with that, but I really do not think it's very likely.
I'm almost done listening to this latest B7 box set and have not listened to the extras. I was pondering if they actually asked Paul "on tape" of his opinion of recasting him in the interviews... I obviously have not listened to the interview disc yet so I don't know.
