I think his ignoring of Dark Shadows may be one of the reasons why I don't listen anymore. The others might also be that half of them are just promos, and not a real podcast. I've thought this for a while now. And, if they are going to use the podcast to just promote stuff, they should promote everything equally. After all, they want to sell everything they make don't they? Cheers Tony Maybe perhaps Briggs should hand over the Podcast to someone less busy. Or, just release one a month, with all the trailers for releases in the next month, plus a list of stuff they may not have trailers for, that is also getting released next month..

Maybe a production team with ten or so minutes free could discuss what's coming up in the next month that they worked on, talk about past projects and what they are allowed to say about upcoming releases. It'd give the different ranges more equal representation and more depth than the podcasts currently give. At this point it's looking at the What's New page, saying what the titles are, who is in them and playing the trailer. If it's something Nick Briggs was involved in, he'll enthuse about it. And that's if we're lucky. Another thing could be that the cast from a recording session are having a discussion around the microphone, just casual chat. It'd be great to hear the conversation from the green room, or learn some specifics about the role of the director or something.

I like Nick as a person, have done since first seeing a Myth Makers a million years ago. I wouldn't like to see him leave the podcasts as he's funny, passionate and when it comes to answering questions he's as high up as we go (I dont think Jason will be podcasting anytime soon!) so I think he's a good pick for the podcast but he needs co-presenters like Joe or Scott to bounce off otherwise he reverts to just plugging his own stuff and seems more like a salesman than a podcaster.
I used to like the looseness of the podcasts but since that seems to be gone, coming up witha "format" may be best. Listener mail, general news, sneak peaks, competitions, special guests, discussion of that month's listeners special maybe. Nothing that they haven't already done just tightened up a bit to make it seem like an actual podcast. Also having some trailers be exclusive to the podcast might be an idea to increase relevance and traffic.

I tend to forget about the podcast but I'd like special guests and answering of fan questions.

Yeah, as long as it's interesting listener mail. I hate getting to the Mail page in Vortex and it's nothing but "_________ was a great story and I thought _________ gave a good performance" or one of those issues where all the answers seem to be "No plans at the moment"

Actually isn't Briggs favorite line Just Imagine... Just curious but are there any fan podcasts of BigFinish. I don't mean reviews but fans discussing the latest or even old releases?

A couple that I like - the Oncoming Storm (they do a show a fortnight - one on audio, the next on books) which is really good. Stories From The Vortex is pretty good but the hosts always seem to have audio issues and they only post episodes sporadically. Oncoming Storm is very good - they're doing the Main Range in order but also have news, discussion and then a kind of "what else we've listened to" at the end. theoncomingstorm.libsyn.com/

Also having some trailers be exclusive to the podcast might be an idea to increase relevance and traffic. I mean the podcasts have always been a method of pushing product but they did used to be looser and with more of a irreverent point of view. It's why Nick & Paul were such a great double act. Since Paul's passing it has felt like when they did podcasts they tried to replicate that tone. Clearly Ian & Joe, and Sue and Kenny, aren't Paul. Nor should they try to be. I think you hit on the direction they seem to be going. BF is a company in a growth phase and the podcasts seem to be much more of a overt sales pitch. If that translates into a semi-set, and more regular format of trailers & reader questions, I would be okay with that. The podcasts used to be something special and they won't ever be special in that way again. Life happens, people leave us and you adapt, move on and focus on something else. I just want Nick to be engaged and happy to do them. And for us to get them on a regular basis.

I seem to be in the minority here. I enjoyed that! There's something oddly charming about Nick being alone. Less distractions, perhaps. I wouldn't mind more of Nick solo.
That said, we need more of the delightful team of Nick, Kenny, and Joe!
Re the prospective theme-song: I suspect that was a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement of the Prisoner-promotion deluge, though I could well be wrong.

Bloodlust has not only a trailer but a whole free episode he could have plugged there. Just a bit odd that one of the most critically acclaimed things BF have done in years got overlooked (for the Nth time) but everything else got a trailer played and if there was a free ep going, that got mentioned too. I think it was more to do with Nick's unfarmalarity with Dark Shadows - look up that podcast he did with James Goss and Joseph Listeder. It's hillarious But, I do think it should have been represented FAR better with the trailer and refering to it's nomination in the BBC Audio Awards and how well it did on Amazon.

He wouldn't need to be familiar in the slightest to play a trailer and say "you can hear the first ep for free" though. Not at all.

Perhaps he felt it was so popular that it needed no further introduction? I don't think that any of the releases he played trailers for were nearly as acclaimed as Bloodlust.

I, and I think David, are just saying if they are going to do regular podcasts again, we want them to be regular and if the trade off is something with a little more of regimented format, we are okay with that. Those podcasts with Kenny were great and the closest BF podcasts have come to the spirit of what they were with Paul. And to your final point, I agree.

I think that would be the first time anyone has ever said "We've sold enough and had enough praise for that...let's move on" You could easily be right though. We can't know for sure. I don't think it's anything even remotely sinister or nasty, I just think it's rarely part of Nick's radar because he does tend to get much, much more excited about things he personally grew up with, hence B7, Who, Prisoner and Gerry Anderson get a lot more love and praise than Dark Shadows or Pathfinders to name but two. Yes, it's "biased" but I honestly don't imagine he even would realise it. He's obviously done this podcast more ad-hoc than usual and was just battering through.

A sentiment with which I wholeheartedly agree. That said, I prefer sporadic podcasts to no podcasts at all, an alternative that, given the influx of new ranges for Big Finish, may well be the only one.

As a solo podcaster I was impressed and enjoyed the most recent podcast.
The email ping made me laugh.
I think nice does a fab job.
Let's face it. He is the Moffat of big finish. But with the addition of acting!

It was an ok podcast, but I have to admit I had to listen to it on and off in parts because I found it a little boring just listening to trailers.

While I enjoy Nick's presence, I do think this podcast needed a little bit more to it. It really consisted of playing a series of trailers for this year's products and yes, that's part of the function of the podcast - introduce new customers to what Big Finish's output, but I think it needed something more to balance things out for regular listeners then reading a few e-mails. Perhaps, some previous unknown insight in the production of particular titles or news of what is to come?

Perhaps, some previous unknown insight in the production of particular titles or news of what is to come? An anecdote from the recording would be interesting, as long as it isn't about how great or actors or the lunches are. Something that happened that stands out, a funny story or line that an actor kept having trouble with or something that got people laughing. Any of us can look at the What's New page at home and play the trailers for the releases we're interested in. Is there still a competition where the winner hasn't been announced?
