The books have dealt with Rex a bit, and the BF audios have included many references to various Torchwood novels, so I'd assume it's either availability or rights issues. Or, they just haven't come up with a story to tell with him yet.

I am not sure that BF can just ignore what happened at the end of season 4!!So it will be interesting to see how they deal with it!!!!! If you mean what happened to Rex then we can just assume it wears off once his body has replaced his blood supply (I'd have to google how long that takes, but it isn't long). I wouldn't necessarily assume that's what would happen.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here but on tumblr Scott Handcock said that they hadn't announced all the series regulars for this yet, so it looks like it's going to be a very large cast for these.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that's what would happen. I'm not saying you should, just that you can. Until and unless the character returns and something happens to crystallise it one way or anothe, we can all imagine our own fates for the character. It's my personal head-canon anyway because the whole blood transfusion thing never made sense to me anyway, and having two immortals in the series is just one too many.

I disagree. I think they could have done something interesting with that as a followup story.

I'm imagining Jack will help Rex through immortality, watching him get into scrape knowing he'll survive and coaching him through the effects on the psyche of coming back to life.

I've got a small bonus from work, so have just pre-ordered the bundle as it's £9 cheaper (though am holding off until ordering 'The Lives Of Captain Jack' until next payday as, although I have a little bit more money through my bonus & the small amount of overtime I did, I couldn't justify spending £100 on audios in one go to myself)...

My sister, who is not a Big Finish listener, said, "Oh, Torchwood is coming back!" When I informed her that it was audio only, she was disappointed.

I did a show the other night and the light person is a Big Finish fan. I mentioned to her that Torchwood series 5 was coming out and three of the cast members looked shocked. When I explained to them it was on audio, they just looked confused. I really wish audio drama were more of a established thing here. I could have so many more conversations with people.

When I explained to them it was on audio, they just looked confused. I really wish audio drama were more of a established thing here. I could have so many more conversations with people. I had a slightly different situation - my sister knows that I'm a huge Big Finish fan (hell, all my orders last year were posted to her house for convenience... I visited her a lot last year ) and she knows the amount of material they make. I told her last week that Torchwood: Series 5 was happening, and she was excited. I told her it would be on audio, and she was still excited. She'll never listen to it She was this excited when I told her about Torchwood: Outbreak, or the Tenth Doctor Adventures. She loves the idea, but she struggles to focus on audio drama. About the only time she listens to anything is when we're on car trips with the rest of the family, which isn't very often. She does enjoy what she hears though, so I don't know why she won't try to enjoy them under different circumstances. The point I'm trying to reach here is that people may be interested, indeed thrilled, that Torchwood is continuing... but the format just isn't for them, which is sad.

Yeah. And I guess the point I was very loosely trying to make is that for most people in the US it is a cultural thing. We just don't listen to audio drama, and it is like anything else, if you don't use that part of your brain that builds worlds based on sound, it can be a tough thing to get someone to pay attention and stay with it. And yeah, it is frustrating.

Sometimes I think I should lose my headphones at work and play them out loud. But that probably would be frowned upon.
Torchwood especially is probably not the best Range to play at work.

I played an Eighth Doctor audio for my sister and brother-in-law a few years ago. They are casual Doctor Who watchers and we were driving in the car. They didn't really dislike it, they just couldn't get wrap their heads around it. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I was hoping that they would say, "Wow! That was great!"

Yeah, that's sort of the reaction I got from a girl I took on a date back in high school. We listened to Doctor Who and the Pirates on the car ride and while I think she overall understood what was happening, I guess the format wasn't immediately captivating - or maybe I just didn't pick the right story... And my other friends are only casual fans of the show, so anytime I bring up something I've been listening to lately, they just smile and nod. It was really the lack of having anyone to talk to about audio dramas that led me to this forum and while it has filled an itch, I have to say it's still quite lonely experiencing all these fantastic adventures but having no one to talk to about them in real life.

I guess I kind of do need to finally sit through all of Miracle Day.

With a high school girl.
