Beats me, I thought it very effectively announces that Dayna is included, but not Josette. I don't know what is more honest and up-front. (Possibly I'm used to that sort of thing though since for some time Big Finish has been using the image of Andrew Collins on Dark Shadows releases, which effectively communicates that Barnabas is included in a particular story but not the original actor who played the character). Though to be fair, that IS different (as far as we know). Barnabas actually looks like Andrew Collins now - he's in a new body.

I may not personally be happy about the cover art situation, but at least we've finally got Blake's 7 back on audio next month, and at the end of the day that's the most important thing.

See to me it doesn't communicate Dayna's inclusion, since she looks nothing like Dayna. It looks more like a random extra guest character has joined the crew a la Armageddon Storm. Never mind, I can always remove the cover art and fimd something fan produced to replace it. The main thing is, more Blake's 7.

IF you don't like the cover, you can always do what Vila would, have a drink or two.

Exactly. It's cover art. You don't listen to cover art. BF took a thorny situation and made the best of it that they could. They had me at new Blake's 7 audios.

I'd say they created a problem where there didn't need to be one, but to each their own.

I don't see the problem. The cover art is fine, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't see a problem with it: it's a recasting of a character which has happened throughout the history of television: Bewitched did it, Bread did it, any number of soap operas did it, Game of Thrones does it, 1960s Batman had a different Catwoman each year. It's a hazard of the profession. We don't have to like it, we just have to hope that Ms Bannerman does a good job.

It's been over thirty years since Josette Simon played Dayna.

Again, it has nothing to do with recasting, and everything to do with overwriting the established visual look of a character after the fact, when Big Finish doesn't work in the visual medium to begin with, and is supposedly adding to and expanding the original series at various points. It's a simple case of overreach, unless we are to believe that Dayna's appearance constantly changes episode to episode throughout series C/3 that the audios slot into. And I can't help but wonder if people would say the same thing if they started putting Tim Treloar on the Third Doctor releases cosplaying as the Third Doctor. It just breaks the illusion somewhat, and I find that a bit of a shame really. And a smidge disrespectful to the original show. But I appreciate that most probably couldn't care less. Anyway, I'll endeavour to say no more on the subject, as I'm sure everyone is well and truly sick of me harping on about it. But it's only because I feel as strongly about Blake's 7 as many here do about Doctor Who. For better or for worse. I'm not just complaining to complain. And as unimportant as this is in the greater scheme of things, it still really irks me.

I pre-ordered the bundle as soon as it went up, just as I have with every B7 release.

All those examples you've given are visual recastings. Until they decided to take Dayna's image off the cover the recasting was only happening on audio. Now we're into Travis territory instead.

Righto - let's look at BF recastings over the years. A very early one was Andrew Collins as Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows... As I mentioned above this is a case of Barnabas *physically has a new body*. Andrew is used on covers to represent Barnabas. Including one where Jonathan Frid appears on the cover too as it's a story in which Barnabas is retelling an adventure his previous body had. There's The Avengers and the Prisoner of course, the new cast appear on the cover there but the argument there could be that these are retellings.

When it comes to the Mrs Peel stories though they both do and don't use the new cast ETA - Well I'm sure that IS the new cast in the Vol 2 photo but you know the point I was making.

Sapphire and Steel - to begin with there was no suggestion these were new bodies. And again the new cast were on the covers. Later though we were told they had taken a new form and then they did it again.
