DOCTOR WHO - FOURTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES » 6.08. THE SKIN OF THE SLEEK Released August 2017SynopsisOn the planet Funderell you can walk on the ocean. The surface holds you when you move, but if you stand still, you sink. Lights shift in the fathoms and great shapes move beneath your feet - schools of giant electric eels known as Sleeks. There is no solid land and the only locals are the Wavewalkers, hunters who live in floating villages. But recently some strangers have arrived, pursuing their own distinct agenda. When the Doctor and Romana lose the TARDIS to the deep, they need help. Which makes finding a fellow Time Lord on the planet very useful. The fact that Time Lord is Sartia, an old friend of Romana's, is even better! But this is a planet of secrets. Be careful when you explore its depths. You may just drown. Note: The adventure continues in Doctor Who - The Fourth Doctor Adventures: The Thief Who Stole TimeWritten By: Marc Platt Directed By: Ken Bentley CASTTom Baker (The Doctor), Lalla Ward (Romana), Joannah Tincey (Sartia), Alan Cox (Eamonn Orensky), Kieran Hodgson (Klick Chervain), Des McAleer (Blujaw Skaldson), Alex Wyndham (Linnis Skaldson), Jamie Newall (Greygul), Jane Slavin (Frithra). Other parts played by members of the cast.

Marc Platt is very much an ideas man, so this should be a treat.

Romanna and her "friend" together were just as bad as I feared the only difference is I don't think Romana's homicidally ruthless.
Good World building though.

Well, it's nice to hear Romana a bit more cheerful. Shame it comes to a dead end when the reason for her cheer, Sartia, reveals her true colours.
This was good fun, I thought. A fine opener that, while not Marc Platt's best, made me eager to hear what happens next. By luck or design, it was the first story of this run that reminded me at all of Series 18, with villagers with West Country accents and some nameless horror beneath. Lots of men with beards! Reminiscent of State of Decay, I thought. A strong beginning to the end of this latest, strong line-up of 4DAs.

I don't know why, but I had a hard time following this one for the first half. Maybe my head wasn't in the right place, but I really couldn't picture the world in my head and had no idea what was going on. Once I caught on it kind of came together for me, but I never really got the shifting, jelly earth. I'll have to re-listen when Part 2 comes out and see if it works better for me as one long story.

Would have been nice to have that as a surprise, I just wanted to glance and see if people liked it. It's not a major spoiler as I tend to assume that every new Time Lord is homicidally ruthless until proven otherwise. I know not judging as a group and all that, but they do have form don't they? Good: The Doctor Romana Spandrell Engin Dodgy: Drax The Monk "Professor Chronotis" Twisty tending Bad or at least Ruthless and Untrustworthy: Borusa Ollistra Castellan Kelner The Celestial Intervention Agency mob And the Other Lot: The Master The Rani The War Lord Morbius Goth Omega Rassilon The Eleven etc. etc. etc. etc. e...

Fair enough, but I think discussions of a release are often viewed by people looking for guidance on how a story is received. Otherwise we'd have to have a spoiler and non spoiler thread for each story, right? But you are right title does say spoilers.

Perhaps the Mods could add a poll at the top of a thread concentrating on a new release, if possible? That way, potential listeners could just use that as a guide on how the story is being received. I know I liberally coat my comments on new releases with spoilers, and if I've inadvertently ruined anything for anyone, I apologise.

Also, jjjjj , I apologize for my response as looking back at it, it comes across very brutish and rude. So sorry as that was not my intent.

Really though, on DU we are never brutish or rude. We have a tame Ogron for that. Seriously, for once, I doubt that a more polite or more friendly forum exists, 'Doctor Who' related or otherwise. (I even praised 'Timelash' once and people just smiled tolerantly in a virtual way... )
