I'm a bit late on this thread (like 18 months late which isn't bad for me. I have some DIY shelves about to celebrate their second birthday on the floor) but
Autumn 2016 (I think) I was Googling for some (now forgotten) bit of obscure DW info and one of the top hits was a post on this forum. Then I lurked for about six months, decided DU was an island of mingled calm and enthusiasm in the mostly nuts world of the net, and joined.
Do I regret it? Never! You are a lovely bunch. Does my wallet regret it? Almost every week when I find out about an irresistible BF offer I might otherwise have missed. One damn sale after another.

I’ve answered google but it was a while ago so I can’t remember. Almost certainly that or searching on Twitter!

Found this via another forum, but I’d probably be crucified if I said which one.

I don't think there are any forums we hold with particular disdain, but now you've got me wondering.

I'm not bothered by The Nethersphere. Not a member, but it doesn't seem to have recent posts.

I remember plans for this forum being discussed on the old forum. I was lurking since the beginning but just joined.

I remember plans for this forum being discussed on the old forum. I was lurking since the beginning but just joined. Glad you joined us! But you wouldn't have seen discussions about this forum on the old forum, actually, since the official Big Finish Forum was shut down without warning. We were all taken by surprise. Some of us commented on the official Big Finish Facebook page and looked for each other there, and a FB group of Big Finish Forum "refugees" called The Zero Room (still in existence, but not very active now) was formed. So maybe that was what you saw? Also, a few of us posted about the formation of this forum on Gallifrey Base, to let anyone BF Forum refugees know where we'd gone. And some of us PM'd people through the old BF Forum, when it was still up, as PMs were still allowed even after forum posting was permanently turned off. (Originally, the entire forum was pulled down and then BF put it back up for archival purposes and allowed PMs. But now all that is gone.)

Shocked? I was in irrational Rage!
Although it surprised me last week when I asked the Execs what piece of advice they'd give themselves if they could go back to when they were starting out and David Richardson's was "Avoid the Forums"

I was in shock Saturday night of the day they shut it down when I tried to log on and the forum was gone. I didn't realize till then how attached I had gotten to it. Surprise? I was in shock for days!!!

That doesn't surprise me at all. I'm kind of surprised that it surprised you.

There were 2 possible 3 big critics on the original Forum and I say possible 3 because 1 was an engaging dialogue (not with me I should add), about the direction a series was going then David seemed to take personal offence at a comment and his Forum interactions ceased, then later of course the BBC telling BF that were watching the Forum and didn't like comments that were criticising the TV show and that future licence deals may've been in jeopardy because of it so BF ended it all together.

.. I wonder what they think about the.. intensity.. of some of the people on here.. The old forum was turning into the wild west towards the end, I do understand why they shut it down, it sux but.. the (some of the) fans back then basically put further BF releases in jeaporady thus shooting themselves in the foot potentially.

I was in shock Saturday night of the day they shut it down when I tried to log on and the forum was gone. I didn't realize till then how attached I had gotten to it. [...] I remember being fairly new to the forum when it closed down. The feeling wasn't entirely unlike waking up and discovering that one's favourite pub had been set ablaze overnight. Still, it all turned out alright in the end. I'm glad I found DU, meeting everyone here's been a delight. It's a nice place to socialise and I would never have expected that it'd give me that extra boost to do the impossible -- to be employed for skills in Creative Writing. I really, really enjoy my work and DU was a key facet in getting there.
