never having read this and only ever watched the Brando movie (who's Bonkers Moreau made more of an impact than the calm & clinical of this version) I really liked the movie despite the critical & commercial panning it took.
I was perhaps hoping for better things from this, don't get me wrong I enjoyed it much better than "shape of things to come" (which I am sorry to say I found dull and uninteresting) but its not quite lived up to my expectorations or come anywhere close the brilliance of the invisible man.
I was hoping that the "creatures" would be more centre stage than shadows and learnt a little more about them, I too though Moreau's death and subsequent scenes confusing and poorly done, also found the voice too alike for my ears and often found it hard to decipher who was who.
but all that said it was enjoyable, well paced and exciting.....and defiantly its earned its place in my collection
positively in my 7/10 category
