Synopsis The year is 2085, and planet Earth remains on the edge of a nuclear precipice. At any moment, either of two vast rival power blocs, to the West and the East, might unleash a torrent of missiles, bringing about the terrible certainty of Mutual Assured Destruction. But there is another way – or so Professor Ruth Drexler believes. Hence her secret mission deep in Eastern bloc territory, to uncover a hidden city, never before glimpsed by human eyes: the Parliament of the Silurians, the lizard people who ruled the Earth before humankind. There, she’ll encounter a time-travelling Doctor, who knows the Silurians well. A Doctor on a secret mission of his own. Written By: Matthew J Elliott Directed By: Ken Bentley CastSylvester McCoy (The Doctor), Sophie Aldred (Ace), Bonnie Langford (Mel), Fiona Sheehan (Ruth Drexler/ Avvox), Nicholas Asbury (Chairman Bart Falco), Nicholas Briggs (Chordok), Caitlin Thorburn (Karlas), Ignatius Anthony (Gorrister), Louise Mai Newberry (Director Shen). Excited about this story with the classic-series Silurians, special third 'power' eye present and correct - 'Excellent, Chordok.' There's no synopsis yet but the trailer is out now and from the clues in that, the politician characters, the setting in China plus the obvious nod to 'The Manchurian Candidate' - and given that we know what the Silurians always want, I'm guessing a story at least partly about the Silurians attempting to win 'their' world back through subversion and infiltration?? {Wild Possible Spoiler Guess}He's tried to help the Earth reptiles reach a peaceful deal with humans in the past and this is the Seventh Doctor we're dealing with - so maybe he is the Silurian Candidate, but secretly playing both sides off against the other, in a scheme for peace...??

Ah, good, proper Silurians. Between Warriors of the Deep, Transit, Second Chances and The Wheel in Space, this period of Earth history intrigues me quite a bit. We're forging out into a brave new frontier with all our bad habits. The Cold War has returned, the human race has retreated in upon itself and despite all the militarism, we're just about to get our teeth kicked in by the Daleks in a couple decades.

Inescapable what with the setting, but something about the political angle seemed very relevant with real world politics. Faldo seemed to me like a thinly veiled version of a certain well-known political figure with dubious credentials, and I'll leave it at that.

Another very good story with some real life parallels (whether international or not)
Insert Planet Mondas Reviews opening paragraph here as it pretty sums up my thoughts an extremely good sequel to a very poor TV story.
Again though and I'm probably alone in this, why bring Mel back as an absolute Moral Compass? In my view the Doctor can be gently reminded of his mission statement but never put in a position where he's almost going "Is this OK Companion?
Ace's odd insecurity approach in recent stories is resolved satisfactory though, now we need a story that pushes Mel too far and the Doctor and Ace to go "There really was no other choice"

I like the music. Very techno thriller.
Lots of continuity in the story.
