I don't want to sound like a broken record but I am loving this series. I love how the two part format is allowing the series to open things up and explore themes & characters in detail. The first half of the episode is basically a two-hander that features some fantastic writing, which is matched by Capaldi & Williams hitting everything out of the part. On top of that the show looks great and I feel like this year Murray Gold is doing some of his best work scoring the show. I also really liked the somber feel the episode had running through it and which the episode was confident enough to end with. Bring on the Zygons!

Completely agree in fact its probably the strongest Capaldi ep yet IMO.

I loved this episode. I know the show's done immortality before, but it is always great when it explores those themes. I hope we see more of Ashildr/Me. And, I hope we get to see her meet Jack at some point.

And, I hope we get to see her meet Jack at some point. I was thinking the same thing about her meeting Jack. I loved it. Maisie Williams was so poised and assured as Ashildr. I have no doubt that we will be seeing her again. Where was this kind of writing and thematic maturity during the last 5 years? There's a remarkable and very stark contrast between most of the Matt Smith era and what we are seeing this year. Even when you compare it to last year. And I hope we never see the overreaching story arc in Moffat's era ever again. This season has been just wonderful.

Great acting by Capaldi & Williams who were both outstanding, i did feel let down slightly by the weak plot which never got going.
I'd rate this one 7/10

It really wasn't about the plot but the relationship between Ashildr and The Doctor, which was more more interesting and satisfying than any plot about stealing an amulet could be. I'm actually interested in seeing how she handles having Sam Swift around for eternity.

Reminded me of episodes like the Caretaker and Closing Time where they don't bother trying to make the plot interesting because they want to free up time to focus on the characters. I felt like it worked much better than either of the two episodes I just mentioned. I was more interested in the dialogue between Ashildr and Capaldi's Doctor than I ever would have been in some story about a firebreathing lion and an amulet. I also noticed namedrops for Captain Jack Harkness and the Terileptils.

Well, a major theme of the episode was that immortals like the Doctor and Me will always lose people if they become attached to mortals.

I found its exploration of immortality very interesting and engaging; it's always better when immortality is portrayed as more of a curse than a cure for death.

I really enjoyed it, I think Capaldi's Doctor has really settled down into who he is, rather than all the self doubt / guilt from last season. In comparison to last season, where it seemed characters such as Danny Pink were there just to try and point out the Doctor's failings and make him feel bad with a downward spiral occuring, this season when Ashildur was trying to make the Doctor guilty, the Doctor appeared to accept responsibility for putting Ashildur in that situation, but not feel guilty as accepted that it was Ashildur's choice once there as to how to live her life, and the Doctor isn't responsible for her decisions.

I honesty feel like plot is generally overrated. Give me great, well drawn characters saying interesting stuff any time.

I'm enjoying the two-parter change up this year but I still think Maisie Williams was quite poor in her role. Her lines were not delivered with any great feeling at all. I didnt get any sense of the agony of immortality. I think it's fair to say they cast Arya Stark more than they cast Maisie Williams.
However the set design was the tops, Rufus Hound was entertaining enough, Capaldi was his usual 10/10 and the script was strong on character and dialogue. I could use less callbacks to companions and previous stories though. It's happening a bit too often for my liking. I like Who when it looks forward.

I really enjoyed this episode, but I don't quite believe that The Doctor, Waters of Mars in his history or not, would be quite willing to forgive Alishidar.

Well, I think he feels like everything she did was kind of his fault anyway. Besides, he's a very forgiving person. He even forgave the Master in Last of the Time Lords, and Ashildr/Me didn't do anything nearly that bad (that the Doctor knows of).

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I really enjoyed it despite the dodgy Leondra plotline. The idea of Ashildr having to write things down because of her fallible human memory was fantastic - I'm amazed she remembered the Doctor at all!

I did like the idea of the Journals and the fact she rips out pages that she deems too traumatic. I had a jokey theory that, way way in the future she changes her name to Kadiatu Lethbridge Stewart and has adventures with 7th Ace and Bernice lol. Mainly so we could get her to do BF
