I wonder if fans who grew up the wilderness years were just as divided when Lawrence Miles did a transgender regeneration in the Interference novels...

I'm not enthused with the casting, but I'll probably watch the first couple to see if I like it. I'm still not in agreement that a gender swap was nescessary, but I think the BBC is less concerned with those of us who grew up on the original show and more interested in winning a newer, younger demographic.

I had my reasons for arguing against a female Doctor before, I won't rehash them here, but guys, if any of you are just going to sound out about betrayals and other, frankly, crap about the actress or showrunner, then -- and Mods, tell me off if you like -- then go away and calm the hell down.

So now I want a strong male companion. The first such since Turlough. No, Jack was...Jack. Mickey was a part timer, and Rory was good but Rory was there because of Amy, not for himself, in contrast to Ian and Barbara arriving together. Totally agree that a strong male companion is just want the Doctor should order... (pardon the pun!).
I actually think Captain Jack would work well, but any new male companion would be good, provided they are brave, good-hearted and not there for comic relief (or mooning after the Doctor).

The 13th Doctor's first interview.7) What do you want to tell the fans?I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.

I wonder if fans who grew up the wilderness years were just as divided when Lawrence Miles did a transgender regeneration in the Interference novels... To be honest we were pretty divided over every word he wrote

And sorry all you complainers this is why you don't matter Hey, now, we've discussed our reasons for wanting or not wanting sex-change regeneration so the Doctor can be made female. I really don't think running victory laps is any better than raging complaints, unless we're trying to whip up some animosity.

I have never understood the instinctive hatred of a Female Doctor. Why wouldn't Timelords change their gender, I am honestly surprised we haven't seen any Timelords that don't look human (although, most aliens in DW are human looking).
I just hope they don't make a song and dance over it. There was no mention of Smith's age in Eleventh Hour. The stuff in Deep Breath about Capaldi's age was a tad annoying.
Just let her be the Doctor.

I really don't think running victory laps is any better than raging complaints. I think there's a difference between people having understandable reasons for being concerned and some of the more extreme reactions I've seen from people.

Here's what baffles me. If you're a fan of "Doctor Who" I would have assumed that you would share in the beliefs of the main character, who is, let's face it, the biggest liberal in the Universe. If you don't, what is it you like about it, that suddenly will disappear when the lead character is being played by someone without a penis?

I wonder if fans who grew up the wilderness years were just as divided when Lawrence Miles did a transgender regeneration in the Interference novels... Gosh, yes, because that was totally the most radical and controversial that happened in those two books...... (I mean, Jeremy Fitzoliver in a hush-hush government job? Talk about rupturing canon...) (Not sure about that quote further up the page about identifying with heroes regardless of gender. Who identifies with heroes? When the zombies come, I'm running away!) But the most important questions have not yet been answered. 1) Have BF put "Exile" on sale yet? 2) Have DWM put that comic strip where a woman claims to be the Doctor up online? 3) Has Kris Marshall now got to sign on?

To all the naysayers, what I would say is that Doctors are like buses. There will be another one along in a moment, so just enjoy the ride!

Hard to believe I was once 100% opposed to a female Doctor, and now I'm grinning ear to ear we've finally got one, really excited/intrigued to see what Chibnall will be doing...but still somewhat less convinced he'll be able to pull it off...
