Halfway through File 1. Took some getting used to - the dialogue is nothing like what the characters spoke from the original series (they mostly sound like their New Captain Scarlet counterparts.) There are some big differences to the original series, as well - the public know all about Spectrum and the Mysterons and Scarlet is even a bit of a celebrity. But the plot so far has been fantastic. It mostly stays true to the original series but has a massive scale. It's definitely not something you could picture in the original. It really feels like a complete reboot - taking the premise of the original but reinventing it. I'm really enjoying it.

(I would definitely recommend the TV21 comics, the scale of the stories manages to be breathtaking and each Anderson show is shown to be occupying the same universe.) On the subject of SPECTRUM's anonymity, I always got the impression that they were a lot more transparent to the public than their peers. They didn't have alter egos like SHADO (which had the film studio) or International Rescue (which had Tracy Industries). It's a bit like MI5 or the CIA, everyone knows of their existence and they've got their preconceptions, but no one's entirely sure what they actually do. That was the theory anyway.

I remember reading reprints as a kid. I'd love to pick them up again. That's a good point. I just remember one episode where some gangsters find out about the Mysterons and it didn't seem to be public knowledge, but you're right - Spectrum weren't exactly subtle when they were out and about.

No worries. They're definitely worth it. I don't think they could afford to be, the Mysterons were pretty big on mass carnage. You're right as well, I reckon that over the course of the series SPECTRUM got more and more inadvertent publicity until Scarlet becomes something of an international hero (and other more earthly powers start to take an interest). Something similar happens in Jennison/Theydon's Thunderbirds books, Jeff pieces together that Kyrano's fits are being caused by the Hood and that he's the same man who's been trying to expose their organisation from the very beginning. I get the feeling that outsiders who knew about SPECTRUM's activities a bit more closely might have been requested or forced into signing something like the Official Secrets Act.
