Blood on Satan’s Claw
We’ve been keeping quiet about this for a while, but finally we’re very pleased to announce that we’re remaking ‘70s horror classic Blood on Satan’s Claw on audio… with Mark Gatiss and Reece Shearsmith!
Adapted by horror writer Mark Morris, Blood on Satan’s Claw also stars the original film’s Angel Blake, Linda Hayden, alongside a stellar cast that includes Alice Lowe (Sightseers, Prevenge), John Heffernan (Ripper Street, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Office) and Philip Hill-Pearson (Shameless, Good Cop).
Some scenes were recorded earlier this week, but we’ll be starting a crowdfunding campaign in coming weeks to finance the remainder of the project. Crowdfunders will be able to receive exclusive rewards by donating towards production costs. Keep an eye on our Facebook page in the next few days for more details.
Mark Gatiss says: “I first saw Blood on Satan’s Claw in the Friday night horror slot on Tyne Tees television, when I was a kid. I remember it vividly because it scared the life out of me. It’s so distinctly different. The pitch for the film is so strange, and it’s very much in that folk horror tradition: dark, bucolic, earthy and genuinely disquieting. It’s a fabulous tale.”
Linda Hayden added: “It’s lovely working with Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss, as they’re huge fans of the film. I’m really honoured. It was always a really atmospheric piece, and the script to this new audio really captures that.”
Scriptwriter Mark Morris says: “I was first captivated by its unsettling, nightmarish atmosphere at the age of 12 or 13, since when it’s been one of my favourite horror films. I leaped at the chance, therefore, to adapt and expand the original screenplay for this new audio version, and from day one this has been a real labour of love. The calibre of the cast we’ve been able to attract to the project is phenomenal, and a testament to the film’s enduring impact. Blood on Satan’s Claw is back – and I’m incredibly proud, this time around, to be a part of it.”Oh. YEAH!

If it becomes a reality format, I'll buy Blood on Satan's Claw on CD (with the accompanying download of it). The only Bafflegab stories I haven't tried yet are the "digital only" ones - Brenda and Effie Mysteries. Yes, I'm probably missing out!

I'm passing through... duly noted! As I refuse to get a fb account I'll vote here and say that digital is my preferred format. CD's take up valuable space which is currently needed for books.

+1 for digital. (Especially as Bafflegab stories can be streamed via the Bandcamp app, so not even having to download a story to hear it is nice.)

I'm another one who is happy with a download. I'd prefer not to go with Audible, as that would mean re-opening an account (nothing wrong with Audible, it's just needless hassle and expense for one release). Thank you please.

Not that I've seen. There's been an unspecified "very good developments, we hope" that appear to affect the funding of the project, which may mean there is little or no need for crowdfunding, and a question about whether there should be a physical version or not. I guess they've been focussing on the new Baker's End release news, so hopefully we'll hear more about this shortly - but hopefully before the 6th of October (the release date of The Happenstance Pox).

We'll have news soon - apologies for the delay, but sometimes the cogs of large organisations (not Bafflegab!) grind very slowly. In the meantime, the material we've already recorded is being hammered into shape, and sounds very spooky.

Woo-hoo! Just spotted this has got a release date of 16th January 2018 so not long to wait. It's an Audible Original Drama and has a fantastic cast: Adapted from the original screenplay by horror writer Mark Morris, Blood on Satan's Claw stars Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Doctor Who, The League of Gentlemen), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Alice Lowe (Sightseers, Prevenge), John Heffernan (Ripper Street, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Office), Thomas Turgoose (This Is England), Rebecca Ryan (Shameless) and Philip Hill-Pearson (Good Cop). Glad they chose Audible.co.uk, rather than crowd funding to finance this production as it would have been time consuming. Am looking forward to it, so much so I've already hit the pre-order button
