Hawkwind - Masters of the Universe.
I love how the first track starts off as this fairly conventional rock song. Played by absolutely-totally-100% humans. Mm-hm. Yep. No doubt about it. (They've badges and everything.) Then, as they get more and more into it, the layers of pretence come off and they begin warbling arrythmically to the basses. Maybe playing the instruments up behind their eyestalks. I always imagine this album as the result of aliens being so in to human music that they start their own band. It's so mad and so much fun.
(Fun fact: There was a rumour going around at one point that Hawkwind were scheduled to do the incidental score for Battlefield, but had to drop out at the last moment. In reality, they weren't approached by the production office, but they wouldn't have said no to the gig had it been offered.)

Purple Mountains’ self titled. My favorite album of 2019 and it’s not a happy one but sometimes you just need to listen to some sad songs and man, I really needed some sad songs.

I go to the gym at a ridiculously early hour (I'm there before 5am) so I'm not always up for thunderous hip hop or rock on my headphones to get me motivated.
This morning I discovered Go Go Penguin and their album Ocean In A Drop, which is music they'd created as an alternate score to the film Koyanniqatsi. It's beautiful and sounds like an especially energetic Studio Ghibli soundtrack. Put me in a great mindset for today's workout.
If you're curious to hear what they sound like:
