I'm actually alright with Anthony George. He did a good job with Jeremiah. I feel like they toned down Burke quite a bit by the time Barnabas came about, so it's not Anthony George's fault. I would have liked him to continue and Mitch Ryan, though they had their reasons to end that relationship(check out Radio Retropolis if you want to hear KLS's recollection of the exact day it happened). I'm glad Mitch Ryan was able to do what he needed to do and has come back.
Cody, I loved the one-sideness of Carolyn and Elizabeth's conversation in The Flip Side. I totally felt that vibe of Carolyn speaking as a fan of missing all the lost actors and/or characters that made the show. While I love hearing Julia and Joe again and would love more in the future, I would have been too distracted by "I wonder where they got that clip from." I think I joked in the old forums that Big Finish could go crazy and bring back all the old actors using audio from the original series. Sure the quality might have a range, likely more time would be devoted to finally locating a time Joan Bennett in one of her many incarnations said pen, and like the original show bizarre euphemisms would be necessary to get around new words and concepts. I've made clear before that I'm happy with a recast, but love that we've had the occasional clip from an actor no longer around.
Bobod, can I join you on your conference call to have more phone conversations. This is 1980 after all. When will Roger and David get pagers and need to find a phone to call the cannery?

A Star Trek reference would have to bite me on the arse as well. I don't think I've ever seen one full episode! Anyone else able to help on this one?

Can't help you with that, Trace, but I have a question of my own -- a line that's flummoxed me. After Burke regains his memory he has this exchange with Maggie: "I've lied to a lot of people in my day -- doctors, lawyers, firemen -- even an Indian chief!" And Maggie laughs and says, "I remember that!" Was this a reference to something that happened in TOS? If so I can't place it. Can anyone help?

In my mind, it's a line that he repeats so much it's an inside joke between him and others. There's also a few other call backs to dialog in episodes, in particular the premonitions that Davey has about Burke disappearing.

It's exceedingly obscure, but it does have something to do with the character that Mitch Ryan plays on The Next Generation. Speaking of which... he was up for the role of Captain Picard... can you imagine? Burke Devlin in SPACE?

Speaking of which... he was up for the role of Captain Picard... can you imagine? Burke Devlin in SPACE? He's have the wits of Avon and nothing from Zapp Brannigan. He was even convicted of a crime he didn't commit and wanted revenge against the real guilty party, like Blake. Admittedly Burke Devlin wasn't up against the 1984 Big Brother-esque Federation. What's the betting as Burke Devlin (using his full name is a compulsion as strong as typing BRIAN BLESSED's name in all caps) said "I'll be back" as he was carted off to prison?

One thing I love about your scripts is how much they are rooted in the first year of the series, and how they draw and expand on those rich characterizations.

Cody--when did Christoper Ragland become Cody Schell in your avatar?? Have you always been there? It blends so well, I'm ashamed to admit that I just noticed it!!! Very clever.

Hehe, I created that for my avatar on this forum. My day job is being a graphic designer. Most recently I've created the covers for the first 8 editions (so far) of The Black Archive (Book-length analytical looks at single Doctor Who stories) www.obversebooks.co.uk/blackarchive/A cassette case cover for David Calohan's "Hill of the Moon" double album: wasistdas.bigcartel.com/product/david-calohan-hill-of-the-moonand the cover of "An Electric Storm: Daphne, Dalia and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop": obversebooks.co.uk/product/bbcelectricstorm/(That image of audio wavelength is actually the Doctor Who theme.)

I've been looking forward to this one, as I was surprised and delighted when I heard that Mitch Ryan was back. Would he be Burke? Would he be something wearing Burke's face and using his voice? I'm so glad that it was the former. And it felt so right that this kept the supernatural elements ambiguous and on the back-burner and tapped into the intrigues that faded into the background when the coffin got opened and the monsters took over. Fountain pens and shady business associates (good to hear about the non-diabolical Mr Blair again), and the rivalry with Roger Collins and Burke's feelings for Laura... a perfect evocation of the early days of the show!
Kathryn Leigh Scott is as wonderful as always, and it's nice to have that sweet but tough and sceptical Maggie back, while Mitchell Ryan just *is* Burke all over again! He has his raincoat, he has his attitude... and, y'know, when he says he's going to find Vickie Winters, I actually believe he just might!
And then there was the phone call... I'm so glad I've avoided finding out too much about these before hearing them, as touching little moments like that, that can make your eyes surprisingly damp even when you're grinning like a happy idiot, are ones that it's so lovely to be taken by surprise with.
Wow! Having listened to all the Big Finish Dark Shadows releases over the past few weeks, that's really ending on a high... well, 'ending' until June's special event, and 'Bloodline' later in the year...

So what WAS the Star Trek reference? It's ridiculously obscure, I have to admit - so my apologies in advance... But it's mentioned that Burke had a romance with a woman in Alaska. The Riker family on Star Trek the Next Generation are established as being from Alaska. So it's possible that Kyle Riker (played by Mitch Ryan) and William Riker are descendants of Burke Devlin - that Burke perhaps unknowingly fathered an illegitimate child with a woman in Valdez, Alaska.

I think i spotted that reference when i first listened to the story - and cackled at it - but then immediately forgot it as i continued to concentrate on the story. Hey, it's not like i ever need an excuse to re-listen to a great story, but i think i shall be spinning this again over the weekend. Come to think of it, i still haven't got round to listening to Return to Collinwood yet either, since i got it, so i might put them on back to back... {Spoiler} ../and see if i can survive hearing Maggie find Joe again only to be widowed by his death within hours. I don't know if my poor feels can stand it.

Ah, yes: i meant within hours of listening to them, subjectively, from my POV. Enjoyed both stories hugely, of course. It's slightly odd coming to RtC after this long, knowing that - release wise - it came before all of the BF stuff, and yet it seems to fit brilliantly. Kudos to the guys for dovetailing everything so neatly!

I don't know if anyone is following Twin Peaks: The Return, but episode 9 mentions Bill Hastings website www.thesearchforthezone.com and it has coordinates at the bottom of the page, which is near the fictional town of Buckhorn, SD. www.google.com/maps/place/44%C2%B030'44.8%22N+103%C2%B049'14.6%22W/@43.9290794,-103.646356,101493m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d44.5124444!4d-103.8207222 If you zoom out slightly, you'll see how close this is to the Black Hills and Rapid City, the setting of "...And Red All Over". Finn/Burke's cabin is somewhere in the middle of the Black Hills. Probably not far from Mount Rushmore.... the FACES OF STONE, ALBERT. I'm loving the Twin Peaks revival, and love that it's set near and mentions my home town, Rapid City.
