BF Audible Style service Why Would Anyone Want It ?

This. I have no desire to see BF turn into audible.

Yuck. One of the big things I like about Big Finish is that they don't have ludicrously repressive Audible coding on their releases. Every time something was purchased on Audible (and it was only twice), it felt like trying to feel your way through a straitjacket.

I think some people want a subscription service, so more akin to netflix than Audible. I can't see BF doing it though, they probably don't have the listenership to make it profitable.

Checked the audible site, they are membership only as far as I can tell, that membership can renew monthly or annually.  From experience you get to keep what you purchased with your "credits" once your membership expires, but of course subject to the DRM restrictions and so long Audible stay in business and keep their DRM servers running etc etc.

Not that I know, no, but I'm having to rely on my experience of them many years ago, plus what I can learn from their website.

Interesting, from their public facing website you wouldn't know one off purchases were a thing.

Audible has very low quality encodes with no truly high quality options available (despite what they claim), which you can just about get away with for straight audiobook readings, but anything more complex, sound wise, sounds pretty terrible, even at their highest available quality. They also have some of the worst DRM around. If Big Finish ever went down that ramp, either by using Audible as their distribution hub, or by creating their own similar service, they'd certainly lose me as a customer.

Personally I think the way that Big Finish creates and distributes their digital content is about as good as it gets, and so Big Finish (and Bafflegab via Bandcamp, and other smaller players who do things similarly) are already well and truly leading the field as far as this kind of thing goes, and so I'd hate to see them take a step backwards, which to me is what Audible very much represents.

The only thing Audible has going for it (and admittedly, it's a big thing, particularly for those who don't care about sound quality) is the size of their library. But on every other front, I find them very weak indeed, despite their popularity and market dominance (let's face it, most people put convenience well in front of quality, as much as it may depress me), so personally I hope Big Finish stays as far away from both Audible and the Audible model long into the future. Besides which, I don't see how BF could use such a model and remain viable long term anyway.

I think it could work for them to say an annual subscription gets you 26 credits and you could you use those for any titles at 1 credit per disc. Assuming everything else stays the same of course, i.e. drm free, choice of CD or download, mp3 or audiobook.
