I'm pretty sick of the "72 Hours Earlier" trope. TV Tropes calls it "How We Got Here". Look, I'm fine with stories starting in medias res. That's fine! But sooo many stories are weakened by the gimmick of "Look at this wacky situation... now how did we get here?!" It's just a twist for the audience, not anything to do with the characters or the story. That's not a good twist. I mean, I've seen it done cleverly when it's subverted ( The X-Files episode "Monday" is a good example), but more often than not, it's trite and overdone - and you can usually see the twist coming. (Although Rick and Morty made fun of it during the purge episode, so I'm glad to see other people rolling their eyes at this.)

You seem to have missed most of the post for context.

You seem to have missed most of the post for context. You made a lot of good points, but I was just made a point and you were kind of sharpish about it.

You seem to have missed most of the post for context. You made a lot of good points, but I was just pointing out that this is how shows are developed for TV and how it happens and you kind of were.....sharpish about it. Thankfully, a lot of shows course-correct on this issue (although I'll fight you on Kara and Jimmy . Jimmy's been underused so far. His Guardian storyline felt like it was there because he needed a storyline and Highfather knows the Arrowverse doesn't have enough street level heroes. The annoying thing about Kara and Jimmy was that it was teased in season 1, with Lucy Lane in the love triangle. Kara and Jimmy get together at the start of season 2, then decided they were better as friends. Maybe the writers were planning to get Lucy and Jimmy together, but Lucy's actress didn't want to move up to Vancouver (much like Max Lord's actor, as Max wasn't even mentioned in season 2), so they came up with the Guardian storyline.
