Well, we were going to arrive at this sooner or later: last time you ate out, fancy or not.

Tonight: Fish and Chips in the Badwolf van, overlooking our local Fell . Cheers Tony I took my son out for fish and chips (from a van, but not yours) last night. Would have sat on the harbour wall to eat them but it was too windy so scurried back to our holiday cottage; so it doesn't count as eating out.

I'm sure I would have noticed an extra couple of people in the van... Eating my chips . Last time we had fish and chips on a harbour wall (Whitby), we were set upon by thousands (well, 5) seagulls. Wonder if that's where Hitchcock got his idea . Cheers Tony

I had a teriyaki chicken bowl this past Saturday. I'd half-hoped to get sushi today, but we napped through the sale period. Looks like our budget won this round. xD

Tried the simit sarayi near Picadilly after viewing the big car show that happened yesterday. Had the bbq and parmesan chicken sandwiches. Bit much on the lettuce, not enough dressing.

Reminds me of my adventures with Chinese food in Shenzhen. Haven’t had chinese since then. I'd love to go to China some day It’s a lovely place though I’ve been only to Shenzhen and Shanghai. Food was a big issue with me being a vegan. The Chinese are quite hospitable and it was quite safe for me to travel alone even at 1 a.m

He reports that he solved the food issue by saying "Buddha" when they went to restaurants. Apparently, that was understand as "no meat products in the food." Don't ask me, it's a second hand anecdote. But it seemed to work for them. To the best of their knowledge.

Don't ask me, it's a second hand anecdote. But it seemed to work for them. To the best of their knowledge. I used to follow a simple procedure - have my flat address, workplace address and a few other phrases like "no meat" etc written down on a paper in chinese I used to carry that paper on me every time. It helped a lot. Mostly I cooked my own food, for eating-out days, we usually went to an Indian restaurant which was about 3-4 kms from my place. Whenever we went to proper chinese eateries, we went with Chinese friends, so translation was not a problem, only food availability was. Shanghai is more cosmopolitan with Indian restaurants easily accessible. And one of the restaurant owners was from my hometown so he treated me like a princess when I visited there, making sure I had properly eaten Learning a few chinese words like "please" or "thank you" also helped a lot

Even though my daughter spoke Japanese, she managed not to make herself clear to a grocery store employee in Japan when she tried to buy vegetarian food to take with her on the train. She opened the package on the train and found it had bacon in it. Which she removed before she ate it, as she had no other food with her and it was a long train ride.

She opened the package on the train and found it had bacon in it. Which she removed before she ate it, as she had no other food with her and it was a long train ride. I had this problem initially while picking up stuff at the supermarkets - with everything written in Chinese, I applied the logic that a carton with the picture of a cow would be milk, and it turned out to be yoghurt instead and there went my morning coffee We used to memorize what things looked like after a bit of practice. It worked better than trying to articulate what you want to store employees Another problem was using public transport, we once took a bus to a particular place, without knowing it was a circular route, missed the destination as we neither understood the driver nor could read signboards and came back to where we started from.
