I think Brian Hayes was also left-leaning as was Barry Letts (and probably Terrance Dicks). I remember reading that Letts voted Liberal so that wold make him a centrist. Dicks I don't know about, but I think on the Mutants DVD documentary he says something like Letts and Baker/Martin thought the British Empire was a bad thing whereas he thought it was a good thing (or something like that - I only watched it once 5 or 6 years ago) so since then I've always had the impression he was a bit right-leaning, or at least a small "c" conservative. Wasn't sure about Letts. Just got the feeling he was a bit more left of-centre with some of the elements he brought into the show as producer. There is a distinct change in tone, especially with the approach of UNIT between Season 7 and Season 8. Under Sherwin, UNIT was a bit more of a formidable force and less 'Dad's Army', they were also more willing to act independently (hence blowing up the Silurian Base without informing the Doctor). This shifts a lot with the later stories, where Letts had more of a creative direction. I guessed about Dicks, based more on assumption than anything else.

Which is why Verity Lambert's critique of the Pertwee Doctor compared to Hartnell was really fascinating. Did not know this about Lambert criticising the Third Doctor... I know Hartnell himself was quite dismissive of the series (though probably not for political reasons). The irony being that even the First Doctor gets involved with 'the Establishment' in the War Machines. The story itself feels a very good 'dummy' run for the UNIT stories that would be launched with Troughton. Yeah, Lambert is quite vocal about it in the commentary on the Time Meddler DVD.
She had conceived the Doctor as anti-establishment and as a rebel, and him working for the government just did not fit the character, in her eyes.
But as I said above, I am not sure she had seen the 3rd Doctor era in any detail, otherwise I am sure she would not have missed the "little" subversive moments.

Bit confused about the minotaur. I thought this was going to be a pure historical.

Maybe I ended up just assuming since it's a crossover with Cicero.

Maybe I ended up just assuming since it's a crossover with Cicero. Well, it's an appearance by Cicero in the Doctor Who universe, so not necessarily the same continuity...

Really looking forward to the Sixie trilogy. Think this could be a good run of stories.
Memories of a Tyrant sounds interesting a I love the idea of 'fake memories'!! How apt at the moment!! Emissary of the Daleks is also a unique concept too.
Potentially, a good set of stories here.

Could be a good one here. Had a thought about this - the Minotaur is Greek, not Roman. I wonder if the anachronism of its inclusion on the cover is designed to show that this is a historical where something isn't 'right' - either the Minotaur is an alien or someone dressed in a costume (a bit like The Grimm Reaper in The Visitation). Here's hoping that this Davison trilogy is on a par with 2015 (except Mistfall) to 2018. Kamelion was ok, but a step back from what we have had thus far.

It's very very rare to have artwork which shows one of the TV Companions who are in a story but not all of them. And Nyssa does have a history of being possessed / transformed in MR adventures... that's all I'm saying...
(There must be others but the only example I can think of right now is the final 'older Nyssa' trilogy where each of the three Companions gets a prime cover placing on one story in turn. Still, I'm joking about 'Tartarus' - at least I think I am! )

What a title. Place your bets on Doctor & companion now! I'm saying it's Seven & Mags cause of the schlocky horror title.

As well as referencing the (wonderful) movie, it's also very reminiscent of The Claws Of Santa from the Iris range. Lots of claws going about at Christmas!

(It won't be, but I can dream. Great title anyway and holds all sorts of promise!)

And not forgetting the stunning Bafflegab audio!
I remembering hearing about the monthly range story Serpent in the Silver Mask and hoping it was going to be a dark and brooding giallo-type story. It turned out to be nothing of the sort, and still remains a very favourite recent story. So naturally, I'm hoping for a kind of gruesome, folk-horror-type festive fantasy for Blood on Santa's Claw - and I'm prepared to be happily wrong if it delivers the goods.

I've no idea if this will be a fun knockabout or not but I'd love a BF panto release - get Biggins back!
