Dark Universe looks interesting. The idea of an 'older' Ace with the Seventh Doctor could be interesting. It just needs to 'avoid' the pitfalls of the 'older Mel arc', which did not seem to go anywhere. A younger looking 7th Doctor in the Movie costume is puzzling - perhaps there is a boo boo here that's not been spotted. McCoy's face also looks a bit like the one from the title sequence with the costume of the Movie put around it. Will have to see. Blood on Santa's Claw is still not been announced properly... Would like to know how this one goes. Clearly, there are changes afoot with the MR. I was hoping that they'd reactivate the super-sub option again as I'm now able to take advantage of that. I get why they'd want 6 releases or 'box sets', but I do quite like a single story every month to look forward to. It's been the unique USP for BF from the off, so it will be a big change in style. It might bring in more listeners, but then take the focus away from the longer-term subscribers. Not sure I'd bother checking the site if I had got my 6 releases at the off. If I had a subscription, it would be nice having a new story each month to look forward to. Alas I don't, more due to cost than anything else. I expect the cost of producing a large batch of 'single' style jewel cases each month, many of which then sit on shelves in the warehouse, is the issue here. Very few of these are shifted at full price after the subscriptions have been fulfilled, and a sale on these is a good 2 to 3 years away. Interesting to see what they replace it with.

Yep, I think you've identified the key problem. If they do go ahead with a single download/jewelled case release of 6 or 4 stories, then perhaps the branding of the range needs to be looked at. Whether this means starting with new numberings/classifications or carrying on with the existing system and numbering will be a key point to consider. The 4th Doctor Adventures get round this by having X.1, X.2, X.3 as the numbering rather than an individual number. Perhaps the MR should be retired all together and we just have series of 'Past Doctor' Adventures (or Classic Doctors), especially as the trilogies are no longer linked?

I am expecting the monthly range will continue, but as download only.
The Special Deluxe Collectors Limited Edition boxset would be released when the trilogy is complete to allow customers to focus on a specific Doctor if they desire.
A full 12 release subscription would still be available at a reduced rate, so a “super-subscription” could still be offered.

I think we can safely say at this point that "Dark Universe" ties into Sophie's novel (or else it's an insanely huge coincidence). I'd love it if the S26 Blu-Ray trailer gets tied in as well.

"The Eleven has a plan. A grand plan. An appalling plan. A plan that endangers all life in the cosmos." Again?

If they’re tie-ins, even inadvertently or slightly, then I’d be trying to align that and promote the hell out of it. It’s brilliant advertisement and it makes each product that little bit more desirable.

"The Eleven has a plan. A grand plan. An appalling plan. A plan that endangers all life in the cosmos." Again? I was interested in Dark Universe until I saw the inclusion of the Eleven. A character whose one-line summary pitch is far more interesting than the actual execution.

As much as I like Mark Bonnar, I always got the sense that they just didn’t know what to do with his character after a while and had to keep up with reasons as to why he was still around. Partly feel like that’s why the last Ravenous boxset had such a focus on multiple incarnations of the Master. Although considering how they plan these things I could just be talking out of my backside.

On paper the Eleven is pretty much your bog-standard evil Time Lord with talking to himself in funny voices as his USP to distinguish him from other evil Time Lords. It's a tribute to Mark Bonnar's skills as a performer that we don't realise this while we are listening.

As I said, this is either going to be great or a flop. There isn't much more that BF can do with Ace - so I suppose this is a different direction. It also allows Aldred to stop the 'shouty teenager' routine for a while. I liked the idea of Ace, but it was very much a BBC Middle-Class, Middle-Aged version that appears on the TV (the NAs are a bit different). Still no December details...

As much as I think I've plenty of The Eleven from the box sets, I like the sound of this and it strikes me as a refreshing take since there's a lot to distinguish it from those.
I've probably also had plenty of evil schemes that threaten the entire universe but what can you do? It's Doctor Who, y'know. I'd miss a lot if I didn't grin and bear it with stories where the entire universe hangs in the balance. :-)
I wonder if they'd get to cross-promote a tie-in with Sophie's novel - maybe there are legalities or something? - but I wouldn't mind at all if they're connected, that sounds really interesting too.

I'm guessing there can't be formal cross-promotion or an overt connection, but there's no reason Sophie Aldred and Guy Adams couldn't have coordinated a quick little easter egg reference or two for those that happen to check out both the book and the audio. Kind of like Rose mentioning her visit to Justicia in Boom Town, something we never see on television and is otherwise completely irrelevant to following the story, but serves as a fun little wink to those that happened to read the Ninth Doctor novel "The Monsters Inside".

Even though it's been 3 years since BF have done a Main Range anthology, this one is definitely worth the experiment!

Even though it's been 3 years since BF have done a Main Range anthology, this one is definitely worth the experiment! I like the idea as well. If it is done like Time in Office - 4 stories with an overarching theme, it could be a really good release. If anyone will make it work, Baker will. Think Time in Office is one of the best anthology type releases and is one release that I wouldn't mind a nice sequel to - more tales of Gallifrey in this way please. Davison and Fielding shine in this one.
