Its almost Torchwood tries it UNIT style and its fun.
Great follow up on the War Machines
Lovely Super Bit** offs between Yvonne and Elaine.
More Ianto angst/deviousness if you like that sort of thing, and he's Not the Angel on Yvonne Shoulder he's the Igor to her Victor.

Truly, Stacey and Tanya's conversation at the beginning of disc three rate as one of the most irritating things I've heard from Big Finish for a long time! Nice to see it demolished without effort by the mighty Yvonne Hartman. "Hard-wired to be 'on brand'" - I think we all work with people like that! What a brilliant character Hartman is, and happily not the only brilliant character in these audios.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more comment on Machines. It's a typically brilliant Torchwood release, and intriguingly staged. It's interesting that just a few minutes into disc 1, we're knee-deep in conflict. Disc two is more comedic, but far from lightweight. And disc three is a mix of the two. WOTAN would be proud.
A word too for Iain Meadows' sound design: it is extraordinary, especially towards the end of the story. It's all very potent stuff as is the ultimate message that, despite everything, we are all not machines ... or are we?

The only thing about the sound design is that i wish they wouldn’t use the cheesy free music that used to be in the old RoosterTeeth shorts. Really takes me out the scene.

Really enjoyed "Machines"!
I was more negative on "Before the Fall", didn't feel the villain's plan made any sense, and the fact she almost succeeded despite her stupidity... it turned me off. And Ianto was such a minor character in that series; seemed an odd choice to take the spotlight off a character we know and like and shine it on a bunch of nobodies we were never given any reason to care about. Left me feeling "meh" enough that I almost gave "Machines" a miss.
But "Machines" was a lot of fun! I like that Yvonne was, in some sense, her own worst enemy in the first two stories. She over-estimated her ability to control the folks around her, and that's what caused the danger. And "9 to 5" was great with how Big Finish brought in some of their daily-life meta-commentary into the Torchwood One world. They've explored similar metaphors in their Doctor Who range before, I think most obviously in the "Human Resources" 8th Doctor episodes, but I'm having trouble thinking of a similar experiment in their Torchwood releases?
It worked out fantastic, and I'm now going to give "Before the Fall" another try. I think I'll still be annoyed by the same things I described above, but I'm looking forwards to how this success will affect my impressions nonetheless!

After binging the Main Range, I needed something faster and action-packed. This really hit the spot, as Torchwood tends to.

I was hoping for the chance to listen to the first release again so I could say clever things about the character development or consistency between the two releases and such, but no such luck - so still I haven't figured out why I think I warmed to Yvonne much better this time around.
As always, it's wonderful to get backstory on Torchwood and also to have Gareth writing again. I was hoping to have a much better comment than "He seems to have such a wonderful feel for the characters" but I still don't. I had a little trouble figuring out who was doing what to who later in that story but it may have been a because of bit of the story intentionally misdirecting the audience, combined with a momentary lack of attentiveness on my part?
I guess I don't really have that much to say other than I thought it was an excellent effort, that it seemed like a particularly well balanced set of stories, that I seem to have enjoyed this one even more than the first set, and that I hope that the Torchwood One range continues because I will happily continue to support it.

Listened to this yesterday and was really quite pleased. Big Finish Torchwood seems to be going from strength to strength.
My only wish would have been to see more Torchwood employees involved besides Yvonne, Ianto and Tommy. For some reason I always love big casts with Torchwood.
On the plus side they name check several Torchwood folks, but I haven’t quite gotten all these rarely seen or never seen characters in my head so the name only “cameos” sometimes don’t resound with me. Anyone have a list?

One other note... not having ever seen War Machines, I am afraid the mention of the Brett file in the second story flew totally over my head until I read up on War Machines later.

Just finished this yesterday. I thought it was a lot of fun. Great to get more origins of Ianto and surprisingly from Gareth David-Lloyd himself.

Can't believe I forgot to mention how just how jazzed I was to hear Nicholas Pegg.
