And 2 #1 singles, a best selling autobiography, his own chat-show, sitcoms, football show, panel shows, Room 101, televised pantos.....he's absolutely a big deal. Baddiel and Skinner, Fantasy Football League... nuff said!

Is Peter Mitchell a first time writer or is he the same Peter Mitchell who created Murdoch Mysteries? He is the son of James Mitchell the Creator of Callan the TV show and writer of the callan books. I know he is the creator's son. I guess the question I'm asking is does Peter Mitchell have a track record as a writer and a writer of audio at that? Not knowing that is the biggest thing I have holding me back from purchasing this.

He didn't need to, he wasn't being corporate, he volunteered it.

*whistles* Hey, this could be rather fun. i never heard of callan. is that who the equalizer was before he came to the states to redeem himself? some stuff is up on youtube i think i'll watch them. has anyone read the books? any good? Different character, I think. There's less sense of John Drake/Prisoner No. 6 in Callan/McCall, although they both share a distaste of the violence in their profession. I was reminded of Callan watching Bond's recovery in Skyfall actually, they're interesting stories and Woodward (as always) did a very good job. On the scale of spy stories, they're closer to le Carre's The Night Manager than, say, The Man from UNCLE.

I must admit,i have had reservations about this(Mainly because the original was sooo good)But as John Dorney is enthusing about the quality of the scripts, thats good enough for me.so its another pre-order(mind made up)

Despite both being involved in the spy business, David Callan and Robert McCall always came across as very different characters, though that doesn't stop some fans from trying to tie the two together (the same way some misguided Prisoner and Danger Man fans want Number Six to be John Drake). Personally, I could never see Callan becoming quite so altruistic as McCall. Callan was a terrific TV show in its day - and I'd certainly watch it if some TV channel gave it a repeat - but I never loved it enough to go out and buy the DVDs, so the audios won't be troubling my wallet (too much other BF goodness to spend my meagre income on anyway). I wish this reincarnation of Callan well and hope the series finds a new, 21st century audience.

It has a kind of a John Barry kind of vibe, doesn't it?

Thank you for the “heads up”. I recorded this and watched it last night. I remember having seen it in the past, but thought it would be a good indicator to whether or not I would be going with the audio series. Firstly the theme tune was not the one from the TV series...so I wonder what theme they will use...perhaps a completely new one? Secondly I was struck how much Edward Woodward’s Callen reminded me of Daniel Craig’s Bond as least the early Casino Royale version. Thirdly on the back of a bus there was an advert for Mann Egerton a company that I worked for. And fourth and finally I confess I was a bit bored with it, so I don’t think an audio version will be for me.

I remember The Man From UNCLE being mentioned on the survey Big Finish ran a few years back....so they must have at least thought about it.

I wonder what the rights are on that front? *scratches head* Who to play Napoleon, Illya, and Mr Waverly too...? Between Callan, the Jack Gerson releases, Captain Scarlet, The Prisoner and The Avengers, Big Finish seems to be on a big espionage swing at the moment. I'm really enjoying it.

Four new adventures have been adapted from James Mitchell's Telegraph Short Stories by his son Peter Mitchell. "It was a tremendous privilege to be invited to take part in this project," Peter said. "I grew up with David Callan and he was the first television character created by my father which brought him to prominence.
The original series of course was one of the best TV-Drama shows ever(Not to be missed!)It gave us an insight into what went on behind the façade of the real cold war/The ruthless, stark, sinister, gritty, machinations of the cloak and dagger world, which made James Bond look like Mickey-Mouse.the acting was brilliant, the scripts superb. The performances of Edward Woodward(Callan) Russel Hunter(lonely) Anthoney Valentine as Toby Meres the psychopath and callans boss Hunter(played by various people throughout the series) as well as Patrick Mower(David Cross) produced a chemistry which made the show compulsive viewing, as good as "The Prisoner"and"The Equaliser" were, IMHO they pale into insignificance when compared to this.
Okay, I need to watch this NOW.

Okay, I need to watch this NOW. Watch the TV series I do not recommend the feature films, they do not give you a true reflection of the series. Hope you are not disappointed!!
