What We Left Behind- Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine....if you are only going to watch one documentary on DS9, this is the one. Okay. That is too glib. Seriously, if you are in any way a fan of the series, the greatest Trek series as far as I'm concerned, this is essential viewing. Just to see the series in high definition. The footage is stunning. The writer's room where the team breaks a mythological first episode of season 8 that takes place 20 years after we last saw is full of amazing moments and ends with a fist pumping reveal. Anyway, buy this doc.

From the article, it sounds like the continuity of the novels has some work to do to line up with the Picard series. Likely, quite a bit of work since it seems that Picard is a sequel to pretty large swaths of the Next Generation led era of Trek. Mainly, my Star Trek reading has consisted of original series novels, but I'm glad they're making a strong effort to match up with the Picard continuity in every way they can. As a Trek fan, or a fan of anything really, that's an effort I appreciate a great deal. I'd read about 50 Star Wars novels before the Disney acquisition and having them all wiped out of continuity still leaves me with a strong sense of dismay and probably played a small role in my loss of interest in Star Wars.

The DS9 doc would have been something I’d have backed if I’d known about it at that time. I couldn’t make the cinema showing either.
Very keen to see this but not looking likely at the moment. There’s an imminent blu-Ray release in North America, including a special edition which they won’t ship outside of North America. Wouldn’t help me much anyway as I don’t currently have a region free blu-Ray player, so I’m crossing fingers for a UK release. If anyone hears news of that please post on here, in case I miss the announcement again.

I shouldn't think this is an issue, the books have been out of continuity compared to the "Star Trek Countdown" timeline for years and years. Either Pocket have a longterm plan to fix things (Crisis? Time Travel? Another Bloody Universe?) or have just shrugged the whole problem off; it may be significant that it's a different imprint of Simon & Schuster who are going to handle the Picard tv series prequel novel.
Books being ignored, or retrospectively wiped out by TV episodes, is the norm for Star Trek - I wouldn't be surprised if as much as 90% of them didn't fit any more.
Then there's "Star Trek Online", which is completely inconsistent again, having picked-and-chosen elements from the novels but not all of them.

It's basically everyone just saying how great the show is with not enough critical analysis or behind the scenes details about the making of the show.

Hurray! The first Picard novel won't be by David Mack (as every Trek book seems to be these days!) but by a bonafide BF-er! Una McCormack is going to tell us what happens before the series, and why Jean Luc Picard is The Last Best Hope. For peace? For survival? For Romulus? For The Federation? Let's see!

I know how the old saying goes but wow, that's a terrible cover (probably not the final one?) They've only released a handful of stills for promos, so yeah, there's no way that's the cover. Just a mockup for the pre-order. Since it's coming out after the series airs, the real cover could be spoiler-ish.

Maybe not — they announced that the comic lead-in will run Jan-Feb and McCormack’s book will follow in February, but the only info we have for the show’s debut is that it’ll be sometime in Q1 2020. It remains very possible that these ‘prequel’ stories will be out there before the show even starts.

Like everyone else NBC are launching a streaming service and I guess they've taken note of CBS' Trek success and have decided to reboot BSG. Again.
But hey, they've also got 'Saved By The Bell' and 'Punky Brewster' sequels too so well worth whatever they charge for it...

People have been making grandiose claims about how they'll reboot BSG since before the Ron Moore version had even ended, and that's been off the air for more than ten years now.

Sort of. STO rarely references them, but accepts the Trek novel 'expanded universe' as part of the same canon...up as far as what was published around about 2007-10, when the game was in development and then released. Naturally, the game developers can't plan their storylines around what hasn't been written yet, and can't be expected to rewrite their game's entire backstory every time a new novel is released.
