Prodigy has been cancelled by Paramount and will be removed from Paramount+ in the upcoming days. Though, it sounds like season 2 will be completed and released at some point. That’s a real shame, and it’s frustrating that it’s being removed from their service as well. No need to pull the episodes themselves. Hopefully, it gets picked up by another network. I watched the first episode. That new character, super annoying. She’s been in the show for about 5 minutes, hardly enough to make a proper impression, or are you that upset by a silly accent? I'm not "upset". I didn't like the character. Felt completely out of place & annoying.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad idea. Well, Scotty coming back is a bad idea, but also inevitable, so why bother. TNG could've been that way. LaForge was never supposed to be chief engineer -- the 1701-D wasn't supposed to even have a singular chief engineer. There were supposed to be multiple chiefs, and you'd see different ones in different episodes, I guess. I think the idea may have been to consolidate the entire main cast on the bridge (hence Geordi being assigned to Ops in S1), which you can maybe understand could've seemed like a good idea on paper.

The Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover ep is SO fun. They're lucky to have Jack Quaid who looks like his animated character. So cool seeing him in live action.

The best part of Those Old Scientists, apart from the fact that it feels equally like a Lower Decks episode and a Strange New Worlds one, is that the crossover isn't just a gimmick, but Boimler and Mariner actually bring out new sides to the cast and ongoing character work. Going into the episode, I would not have been able to predict that we would have scenes like Boimler and Chapel talking about Spock's recent changes, especially as it feels like a pivotal point in Chapel's character arc.
The whole season has been absolutely fantastic, with downright classics in Ad Astra per Aspera, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Charades and of Cours Those Old Scientists. And we still have the fully fledged musical episodes on August 3rd!

Caught up with SNG. Not hitting the heights of season 1 but is fine.

As for the Series in general still very good Regards mark687

I've loved every episode. What a fantastic season! I don't plan on starting it until it's all out, so a couple weeks... but, yeah, pretty much everything I've seen and heard about sounds incredible. I'm especially excited for the musical episode. Though I am a bit concerned in one respect -- it seems like it's gonna be really hard for season 3 to top this.

So, since everybody is raving about it, I bit the bullet and bought Season 1 of Strange New Worlds on Prime. I already have owned all of Discovery for a while in Prime now, but even after months and years have not dared to watch even a single episode. But I think I might do better with Strange New Worlds. I will report back here how I like it. But I think this week, it will more be about Good Omens if I am totally honest....

Well, I'd planned on waiting, but wound up jumping I to S2 of SNW a bit early and watched the first episode today.
It, uh, was t bad... But, man, it really reminded me of how weak some of the writing was in the first season. I think it's pretty clear that, of the main cast, Babs Olusanmokun is probably the best actor... but at the same time, goddamn, no character has been mishandled more by the writers than M'benga.
My enthusiasm is a bit dampened, but I remain pretty optimistic -- my hope is that S2 will really shine in the episodes that (presumably) won't feel the need to try and take themselves so seriously -- the time travel one, the Blinker one, the musical one.

I’ll admit, Subspace Rhapsody wasn’t to my taste, but then, the writers aren’t obliged to write only to my tastes.
Lots of interpersonal plots moved forwards in this one. La’an and kirk’s plot tied off nicely with a nod to future continuity. Spock’s heart got crushed and some foreshadowing for Pike and Batel.
My least favourite of the series, but the polish on the production and plot shine as ever.
Celia Rose Gooding and Christine Chong absolutely killed their songs though.

Yeah, I loved the sheer bombast and clear passion, but despite some really good songs, everything felt a little by the numbers. I’ll add that I thought Jess Bush’s song was really good as well, and felt the most interesting musically.

This was probably my favourite of the show’s entire run so far, but I do generally love when people sing, so I was primed for it.
And Kestrel, I definitely felt that the episode 1 was the weakest of this season so far, so you’ve got some fun things ahead.

I started on Series 1. Hmm. First impression- this is a bit all over the place. Especially the characterizations.
I am also a bit confused. Vulcans have Pon Farr, yes? So this is basically like elephants in mushth. The extreme biological imperative to mate, bordering on insanity. If I have a mating system like that, then mating for entertainment and pleasure is NOT really a thing. This is not humans and chimpanzees. So from a biological point of view, seeing Spock mating for pleasure was a real dissonance. I know, they did it because "sex sells" but if I have a certain concept I am going for, I should stick to my guns. Sorry, I am a vet, stuff like this totally destroys my ability to suspend my disbelief. This is on the level of Voyager having Ocampa who only mate once and then have only one child (which is a sure recipe for extinction).
Anyways, I was looking forward to something that is a bit like the Orville. The Orville grabbed me from the start and also the characterization of the crew was well done and pretty consistent. I am now starting on episode 3, and the only character I have even started to bond with is Uhura. So I hear this is better than Discovery? Oh my. I think I am quite happy I still have not watched Discovery!
However, hearing that series 2 does crossovers with Lower Decks (Boimler on the Enterprise) and a musical episode gives me hope that this will improve and maybe come closer to the Orville. Sadly, series 2 is not yet available for sale, so I will have to wait.
In conclusion, maybe my expectations were wrong. I expected something like the Orville. But Strange New Worlds is not quite there.

Subspace Rhapsody was fantastic! I loved every second of it. It uses the music to propel the stories and characters better than many actual musicals. All hail to the writers on this one. And if they ever decide to actually write a musical I will happily go see it.
