I did the same last year and just said “hi, this is my story concept etc” and still got an email back from Ian Atkins saying how he liked the entry, so I don’t think a blurb in the email is required. They have to read through them all anyway, so if your story is good then don’t worry about not grabbing them in the email- they’re not going to rank you on that. Ah, that's good. That's what I was thinking, but I thought I'd make sure it wasn't a requirement I overlooked anyway. Thanks for your reply!

I wasn't going to enter this year but I've suddenly been struck with the idea of writing a 12th Doctor story before BF put one out themselves... www.youtube.com/watch?v=CR8SQyqV6TQUPDATE: I have binned it.

Great to hear people finishing and submitting - I'm a final proof-read away from the same... and having a title crisis. Unlike other years, where the title was almost the first thing that came to me, oddly this one won't settle!

Thanks for the words of encouragement folks! Though I realise now it was pretty long-winded for a Short Trips blurb haha. Josh and Selim’s are about 50 words apiece, but very well constructed because they capture the essence of each story beautifully. I think I’ll make a habit of doing blurbs for all my stories in future, if nothing else it’s good practice for making “elevator pitches”.
Both my entries are in now and I’ve got worked-over drafts of the two stories, so I’ll be doing SOMETHING with them, regardless of what shakes out in July. I’ll get them proofread a bit more and share links here when they’re ready.

Well, I'm in. Sooo glad I did a final, final proof read as I caught a silly repeated word error. Really worth blowing it up big and reading it aloud to make sure.
My pitch is a Third Doctor and Jo, and about as bonkers as they come... if nothing else, I hope it will make the judges smile. Good luck to everyone who is entering!

Finding a title was more trouble than anything. I usually don't struggle too much with titles, but my story incorporates the concept of quietness, so I wanted to use the word "silence", but I couldn't help but think people would associate it with the alien Silence… So that shot down a lot of titles.
Anyway, it's finally in! "Music for the Silent Soul", a 6th Doctor and Emma (original character) story.

Good to see Sixie getting some love I had a sixie story idea I wanted to do, and it was a cracker, but being as it was a neck-deep wade through continuity it didn't feel like a good fit for the contest.

I finally sent mine in. I went for perhaps too bare bones but considering my original companion I think coming up with a title would have driven me batty.
My original companion is based on a brilliant metal vocalist. I think hardcore fans will pick up the references but things are vague enough that I really like it.
After the deadline shuts I shall share it. My favourite part is I feel like I build a background in the synopsis that revolves around the 7th Doctor and the story is set a handful of days after DOTD.
I like kt and am proud of mein submission

Second submission of 2018 almost done; polishing the opening extract. Ten times better than all my previous drafts (and submissions I've emailed to BF). If I don't win this year, I might publish the entire 5000-word Short Trip on Mixital. Which reminds me, for anyone who feels comfortable with this, why not do the same and let the world see your very own ideas in full?

[...] I'm always interested to hear about people's original companions. Do you think he'll be turning up in any future stories you write or is he a one-off sort of chap like Richard Mace? Well he was first "created" in my desperately needs to be edited and posted somewhere Unbound-ish story. Now that I've come up with a synopsis that has established his main universe counterpart as travelling with the 4th and 7th Doctor he probably would. I like latching on to companion combos and both young NWOBHM vocalist with 4 and Romana and Retired Legend and 7 have fun potential. IIn the unbound-ish story it's Rose's world. And she runs into the First Doctor Susan and Vicki. Steven is in a weird coma from the horrid abuse the Toymaker has been putting them through. I based it off of Cushing's idea that his films was the Toymaker forcing him to relieve skewed versions of past adventures. And aside from the unedited not exactly finished mess of a story that is In cybusworld The Singer traveled with Doctor, Steven, and Susan Vicky and then after he went back to his concert several years later he sees the Tardis and runs after it. And ends up travelling with 7 Nyssa, and Benny. Honestly I liked the idea of a Nyssa still travelling with 7 so much I felt bad in regards to Ace. It's a companion dynamic you can only do in books and audio I think. Just because to do it on screen the payoff would take 30+ years. If I write a new story I really like the idea of the two old men travelling together. 7 was pretty old when he regenerated and just like 11 and Rory's dad there's something cute about two old blokes travelling and occasionally saving the world toge together

Phew! Just submitted my second one for this year. Have to say that it's the best Doctor Who story that I have written so far in my life - worked so hard on every single draft (despite multiple changes). Although I do feel tempted to give some sneak previews, this is a semi-autobiographical Tenth Doctor Short Trip which I have dedicated to my father who passed away when I was nearly 2 years old. If I don't win, it's not the end of the world; I will complete it as a whole 5000-word story and publish it on Mixital - whenever that will be.
Hope for the best, everybody, and have a good night (to the UK fans only)!

I submitted my two (Thanks, Big Finish rules, for keeping me from going overboard). One's a Fourth Doctor and Leela story and the other's a Twelfth Doctor during his time watching the vault. I have to admit that I almost didn't send either in after seeing how much better Butler's idea was than both of mine. Both of my stories focused on original characters as I felt it was easier to write a character-based story focusing on someone new than to try and write a story for a Doctor or companion that can't really have a huge impact on their arc in the long run.

We are done for another year!
Hope everyone had fun, learnt some new things about the craft and, well, keep every digit crossed.
