The X-Files: Season 11 (consisting of 10-episodes) discussion thread. Picking up directly after last season's finale, Mulder and Scully will continue to search for their son William throughout S11. First 5 episodes: - My Struggle III [mytharc] - written by: Chris Carter - launch date: Jan 3
- This [standalone] - written by: Glen Morgan - launch date: Jan 10
- Plus One [standalone] - written by: Chris Carter - launch date: Jan 17
- The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat [standalone] - written by: Darin Morgan - launch date: Jan 24
- Ghouli [standalone] - written by: James Wong - launch date: Jan 31
Season 11 will be airing in North America before the UK market Channel 5 does, so use <spoiler tags> for any major revelations. *Gillian Anderson confirmed today that she won't be returning to X-Files after Season 11.* Bye-bye to the notion of X-Files: Season 12?

To be honest i think the show needs to wrap things up & tie up loose threads, i don't think it's the show it once was.

Yes, it needs to end now Anderson is out. We've seen what happens when you have this show without Mulder and Scully: audiences lose interest and the show dies. Doggett and Reyes were cool, and may have worked on their own show but you don't replace Mulder and Scully - whatever you think of the show or actors, they're as iconic as any TV duo ever.
I do disagree, Timelord, that this should wrap everything up. It would be against the ethos of the entire show to resolve everything. There's always a bigger, unknown mystery. I hope it goes full Twin Peaks Season 3 and gives us a finale that really challenges the audience though with Chris Carter writing, I won't get my hopes up.

Its sad that Gillian Anderson is leaving after this series. But I do think we'll get a 12th depending of course. Cause we have the two newbies who were introduced in 11. But that's if they survive of course lol

My Struggle III: The answers to My Struggle II - nope! Instead we're provided with visions, high-speed car chasing, the usual misdirection and an ending bombshell revelation. If you're wondering about whose "struggle" (other than us viewers ) it is? That would be the Cigarette Man's. The forthcoming monster of the week episodes are supposed to be an improvement over this mediocre season opener.

My struggle III was all over the place, hard to follow, and added more questions instead of giving any answers at all. And seriously, that bombshell at the end was so tone-deaf for this day and age if it's true and if you think about the implications of what was revealed.
This show may have jumped the shark.
Also, Chris Carter may need an education in how to portray women. It's not the year the show began anymore.

Anyone still watching? Episode 4: The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat was hilarious.

Forehead Sweat works as a possible last episode on a number of levels. As a conclusion it's a lot more satisfying than many of the mythology episodes have been.

Ghouli ends up being more of a mythology episode. I'm entirely lost on the backstory of Mulder and Scully's son, but a mythology episode not focusing on the ever present conspiracy is good to have. I did like the first half, where it looked like the show was using creepypasta (a fanfiction community, one of the nightmares it spawned was Slenderman) and that premise has great potential. However it gets caught up in the whole William thing and doesn't go anywhere. Col. Young from Stargate Universe guest stars (he's brilliant in the commentaries for that).

I used to record this show on VHS back in the day.. I haven't seen any of this season yet.. I think I got a bit burnt by last season.. Only decent eps IMO were the 1st and last from what I can remember..

I was a die hard X-Files until the very end of its TV run and yet I’ve yet to anything from season 10 and this, final, season 11. And it feels kind of weird.

Ghouli is really a mix. It works as a standalone, but it ties into the mytharc. Very weird story. Audio Watchdog, my daughter was a huge X-Files fan, and I don't think she has seen seasons 10 and 11 yet, either. It's weird that I watched 10 and 11 before her, because I was nowhere near as into it as she was, and most of my knowledge of the TV series is from her.

I'm with Whisky here - probably the single worst opener to a major TV show season I've seen. I like subverting expectations...but not with boredom and confusion.

Just to saw Kitten last night. Liked the character focus on Skinner, but that last bit was something the show has done to death.

It kind of felt like they were doing it for the sake of a twist. And given that Scully's visions are coming true I guess we'll definitely see a repeat of the S10 cliffhanger at some point, which will render My Struggle III a pointless exercise in rug pulling.

Rm9sbG93ZXJz:
Bravo! This episode was rather innovative and differently executed than you would normally encounter from any television program. Mulder and Scully's date night goes awfully wrong when they have dinner at a fully automated sushi restaurant. Barely any verbal communication occurs between Mulder and Scully throughout the entire story. Lots of good subtle humour applied. This probably is my favourite episode of Season 11 thus far. "They" learn from us is when a technological nightmare could happen in our futures.
